Bras

I probably haven't measured since I had DD 12 years ago and haven't bought any for a very long time. Mine are cheap Next ones.

I believe there is a new way to measure? Is there any guidance?

Where do you buy well fitting bras from online, that are easy to return?

I suspect I am a 30 or 32 C or D. I have a lot of armpit fat that hangs over everything but have read it could be breast tissue, but the scope thing doesn't keep it in the bra.

Happy with crop tops but want to combat the overhang.

If you can, I would really try to get measured at a Bravissimo or similar. They have always been lovely in any store in the UK I've been to. I don't really rate M&S bra fitting service - me and several friends have had poor experiences. My mate really rates John Lewis fitting, too. Personally, I think it's better to have two really good fitting bras than several that don't fit right! It makes SUCH a difference to how your clothes for and how you feel. You can also ask Bravissimo to write your details down and the ones you've tried on (and then look online for more affordable outlets if that helps).

It's surprising how sizes/materials impact the fit from brand to brand. There's a guide for fitting here https://www.bravissimo.com/bra-fitting-guide/

Search for boob or bust on Facebook, you can go through all the guidance to measure yourself and get a BOB measurement to start from, you might be really surprised at what it comes out at!

The nearest Bravissimo is over an hour away - although I sew they do virtual fittings. Not sure whether I'd dare do that.

I'll have a look at some of the info. A quick read suggests my currents ones don't fit.

OK. I've done the hoob or bust calculator and it says 28F. I am wearing 32C.

Is it accurate? I'm not very booby.

could be, 28F is not a massive cup size. As you are slim, you might want to try also 30E, as people with less padding on ribs often don't need such tight bands.

LuciferRising · 29/07/2023 09:22

The Good Housekeeping website suggests I'm a 28 DD/E so maybe I am wearing the wrong size.

You sound a similar size and possibly shape to me. I wear a 32D. I used to wear a smaller cup because I didn't realise breast tissue continued around the side!

I found the BOB method leads to bras that are uncomfortably tight around the band. I measure 28cm, but it feels like wearing a corset, and I can't breathe!

Bra style is the key for me. Mine are wide-set pancakes- fair surface area, but no projection! 😂

I go for plunge, underwired, padded bras. Makes me roll my eyes a bit as they look like glamour model bras, but they work for me.

I prefer underwiring as it is the most supportive and "cups" the whole breast. Non-wired bras crease under my arms and pinch after a whole day. I can't bear underwiring rubbing on my sternum, so has to be plunge. And padding shifts the side boob to the front to give a more rounded shape and a bit of cleavage (need a lot of padding for that!).

Price doesn't make any difference. A cheap bra that's the right style for me works just as well as a pricey one.

LuciferRising · 29/07/2023 09:46

Yes, I think mine go around the side but when bending forwards they look a lot bigger than standing up! Going to order loads from Next first to see what I like.

I used to go to M&S to get measured, I was a 34A. Always felt like I was wearing a child's bra, I never felt comfortable. Then I went to Victoria secret and Beux Avenue and they both measured me as 34D. Much better!! Will never go back to M&S

LuciferRising · 29/07/2023 10:22

I have 15 bras from 30 DD - F coming tomorrow. Various brands.

Couldn't see any 28 band sizes in those cup sizes on Next. I hope it doesn't make too much of a difference.

Sorry, but it makes a huge difference! You're much better off ordering from bravissimo as they have more choice in 28 bands. Find a bra you like in the style that BOB recommendeds for your shape (e.g. balcony or plunge etc), then order multiple sizes of that bra.

There is quite a lot of online retailers which offer a range of sizes and styles now but I always go to Bras & Honey for mine. I had a virtual online fitting this time last year and it was really helpful.

I'm a 28f too OP but I usually wear 30e because it's easier to find.
I like Panache bras for non padded. For moulded styles I quite like French brands like Chantelle. Next does some decent non-wired bras in 30e.

Finally found ones that fit - Gossard Glossies and Freya moulded - have ordered several of each. Took forever! 30DD in one and 30E in the other.

Have been wearing 32C!

I LOVE Gossard Glossies - love the fit, colours and lack of styling fuss of them.

LuciferRising · 04/01/2024 15:12

They fit perfectly. And give a nice shape. No padded lip.
