Straw hats...

Does anyone wear straw hats anytime other than beach vacation?
I will sometimes see an influencer on insta looking nice with a hat on, but something stops me from actually wearing one while in town at home. Somehow it seems contrived.

Just curious.....

I wear mine when it’s sunny (so not at all at the moment). I like to go for walks on my lunch break at work so take my hat to work on nice days but I do sometimes think I look a bit of a twat walking in wearing it. In the end I think it suits me and I don’t care too much tbh.

No I love a straw hat on holiday but would struggle to pull one off at home I think!

I've just bought one for my hols and am delighted with it.
I used to wear one in the garden at home but it's been years since I lived somewhere with a garden.
Never worn out and about at home, too worried about sudden wind and rain.

I used to but now only in the garden.

And good for you. I'm sure you look great. I wear proper felt hats in winter and feel the same.

I wear mine whenever it's sunny. It hadn't occurred to me to feel self conscious about it (which is unusual for me, I'm not a particularly confident dresser). I probably will now!

@NatashaDancing interesting - I have enjoyed wearing a wide-brimmed hat so have been wondering about a winter one. It takes a bit of nerve I guess but they’re so practical and stylish - so much nicer than shuffling around with the hood of your waterproof up crinkling everywhere.

Wewereinparis, please don't overthink it! I love a straw hat, I think I should have said they feel contrived on me!

I tend to freckle, which is cute when you're young, but veers towards splotchy on more mature faces, so I should get into the habit of grabbing my hat!

It's much easier after you take the first plunge. Go for it.

I bloody love hats. I love love love them. I have a lot more than anyone should have. I think I can wear a hat with most clothes but it depends a lot on the shape of the hat more than the material.
I don't have many straw hats though purely because there aren't that many in different models where I am. I have one of those big ones made of straw and I usually save it for the beach because it'll fly away with hardly any wind and I keep bumping into things/people with it so I can only wear it when standing mostly still.
But I think Panama hats/fedoras made of straw are a lot wearable during summer and can look great with either a dress or jeans, the hard part is finding them. I also like trilbies but I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those made of real straw.
There's also those gondolier type of hats but they're not my cup of tea. I can't remember what they're called but I can see a posh woman wearing stripes and white jeans with one of those and looking fab!
