What do people where to festival's? We are camping for 3 nights.. I have no idea what to wear. I seem just live in jeans and trainers at the moment which is rather boring.

I wear the same stuff I wear usually, although would avoid jeans/denim if the forecast is wet.
So linen trousers and a vest top, dresses and chub rubs. Sandals, or ankle boots if its wet. Light weight cardigans. A 'pac-a-mac' in my bag just in case.

God - d’you know how many hours / days / probably weeks in total I’ve spent scouring Insta and websites for clues to the perfect festival outfit? GrinGrinGrin

… What I’ve gleaned is that festivals focussing on - I dunno, rock music - prompt a different type of clothing to those that have music, but also include banqueting and wine tasting and other such pursuits. I’m going to one of the latter type and people seem to wear dresses.Shock Which is fine because I really couldn’t be bothered with all the prep for shorts. Also the weather will only be warm with possible showers.

So I’m planning on two dresses - both of which will carry me into Autumn. And my clunkiest Winter boots. Hoping to borrow a parka.

I'm off to a festival this weekend, and depends on the weather, but if the current forecast holds, I have a sheer hot pink, long sleeved tulle babydoll dress I'll wear over black cycling shorts and a bra top and chunky black boots, maybe with a sequin military hat I customised myself about 8 years ago. I have a very old military dress by sass and bide with silver sequins on the pockets and epaulettes that I will wear one day. Or maybe a gold crochet maxidress with above ankle boots and black big pants and same bra top. I've been going to festivals for years so have a massive festival drawer of stuff I may never wear again, but I also can't throw away!

Depends what festival too though. I wouldn't wear the above to Download eg! I also don't really wear my festival clothes to Glastonbury these days. But I would to wilderness, SGP or bestival...

If it's wet and cold, then tbh I'll just wear leggings, wellies and warm stuff and a long raincoat and cap. I can't be bothered to dress up when it's inclement conditions! Agreed, never denim though... and if it's warm and rainy then shorts are better as your skin dries faster than fabric. But it's chilly at the moment as well as damp. Great British summer!

I wouldn't wear jeans, will take ages to dry if it rains. I usually wear a short dress (with sequins!) with either cycling shorts or leggings underneath, and a denim jacket, and old trainers or wellies. And then carry a pac-a-mac or packable puffer jacket for evenings.

Oh my god, my moment has come. Over the years I have bits from:

Also ASOS is good and I have an eye on a Scamp and Dude cape.
I am NOT skinny at all (size 16) but love the freedom to wear something fun for a festival. Even if you don't go the whole hog, invest in some glitter and a sparkly bumbag from Etsy and enjoy yourself!

Oh I almost forgot, a Rosa Bloom onesie! The sequins make it remarkably warm. (I wore it as a bridesmaid to a festival wedding!)

Always shorts or a short skirt. Wet legs dry better than jeans. If it's cold wear some tights under neath. Water proof not resistant jacket. Wellies and Welly socks

hellswelshy · 24/07/2023 15:24

It's tricky in this weather as you can't guarantee whether it will be blazing sun or showers. Agree no to jeans. I'm going to a festival this weekend, Womad, where anything goes. I'm planning to take a few short dresses to wear with or without leggings. Cropped wide trousers. T-shirts. Walking sandals. Walking boots. A hat. Not decided on type of jacket yet. Warm hood for evenings!

OrchidsBloomimg · 24/07/2023 15:37

I agree very festival dependent but start with black sports gear as a base - leggings/shorts and bra top or straps vest depending on your confidence levels. They fold up, quick dry and are comfortable. Then layer on top based on the vibe - sequin, tulle, neon, or even flannel shirts and huge hoodies! I've never got on with wellies so even in mud I'd go Docs or similar. Pack flip flops you'll probably want them to schlep around tent area especially if sunny. Bum bag and pack-a-mac and you're sorted.

I wish you could 'like' posts on mumsnet. I also have rosa bloom and burnt soul stuff - and I couldn't agree more about just going for it!

Comfortable, sturdy, waterproof footwear is the most important. Then waterproof outer and a range of hats to cover messy hair!

Try and cover all the possible weather scenarios from rain to hot sun!
