I want an outfit that is literally Out of this World

I was pondering where to post this and hope this is the right place. It is about an outfit after all, though it's unlikely to be stylish!

Fancy dress is not my strong suit and I'm off to Beautiful Days festival in August where the theme on the last day is Out of this World. It can mean space, myth, fantasy. But not of this world. What the heck do I wear? My husband needs something too, so bonus points for a couples' outfit.

I think religion is a fantasy, so how about Adam and Eve 😂

faffadoodledo · 23/07/2023 07:49

@DustyLee123 if I had the body for it I'd consider that!!

Men in black

An angel or fairy is what springs to mind as fairly easy to put together

PimpMyFridge · 23/07/2023 07:54

Could one of you be a planet and the other a moon
Or just astronaut suits
I just googled 'out of this world fancy dress' and some funny and cool ideas came up. Better than anything I can suggest so I'll hand over my little contribution to uncle Google. 🤣

Ethereal, so everything floaty and wafty in pale colours, possibly with a cape and hood if this weather continues!

VenusInfers · 23/07/2023 08:02

I’d start by looking in your wardrobe for things to adapt. Anything long and flowing that could become a Greek Goddess type outfit, any thing shiny that could be the basis of a Space costume etc.

If you’re wearing it all day it’s got to be vaguely comfortable and not too prop-dependant. So probably no robots/rocket ships/ET.

I’d probably go down the bright face paint and colourful outfit alien route, taking inspiration from Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek, etc. If you’re identically dressed it would be impactful. E.G. matching red boiler suits, green faces, yellow novelty wigs.

Astromelia · 23/07/2023 08:05

Do you have any favourite books or video games that might inspire an idea? I’d imagine that’s what the serious nerds will do (it’s what I’d do 😁), like cosplay.

An easier option would be a Star Trek jumpsuit, an alien with face paint, or a fairy.

Dumbledore and Magonagal

Or any other m/f fantasy fiction characters from Terry Prachett, LOTR etc

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/07/2023 08:10

Actually for a couples costume I'd be really tempted to go as Crowley and Aziraphale from Good Omens: www.amazon.co.uk/Good-Omens-Season-1/dp/B089YDRJSJ/ref=nodl_?dplnkId=cf40019a-4ac6-4505-ae07-8bec6f36d2eb

faffadoodledo · 23/07/2023 08:14

Quite drawn to Pratchett. i could be Granny Ogg! But wonder if it's a bit niche for a festival which is just a general music festival. Albeit with a last day theme.
@VenusInfers has reminded me I have a golden head garland in a drawer which DD used in primary school nearly 20 years ago on a Dress like an ancient Greek day. Off to dig it out!

You can make toga out of a sheet to go with it

RunnyPaint · 23/07/2023 09:26

This will be out first year at Beautiful Days. I didn't know about the dressing up element of the theme for the Sunday 😳 I can't help thinking it'll be waterproof poncho weather, though ☔

faffadoodledo · 23/07/2023 09:27

Ha! well @RunnyPaint if I'd known when I booked I might have had second thoughts!

I hope it's not too wet, @fafaffadoodledo! Anyway, I'm sorted. If you see these leggings between wellies and poncho, come say hello 👋

Yes, but it might not be the impact that she wants!

SoberCurious2 · 23/07/2023 10:08

Men in Black is a great suggestion

ThelmaBorden · 23/07/2023 10:08

you need to ask Sam Smith’s dresser

VenusInfers · 23/07/2023 10:08

@determinedtomakethiswork Yes, but it might not be the impact that she wants!

Don’t know what you mean, she’d look BOOOTIFUL! 😉

faffadoodledo · 23/07/2023 10:16

I'll look out for you @RunnyPaint !
