Tell me your big bum problems

I am above average height and slim but all my weight goes on my arse. Dresses are easy for me but OH LORD - skirts and jeans are a minefield and it’s got worse with age. It’s like my body is and waist are one size and my bum is 1/2 sizes bigger!

My big bum problems are

  • Jeans fit nicely on the hips and bum but huge on the waist
  • Jeans fit nice everywhere except for the fact my arse is pulling the fabric back so much that it gives me a camel toe
  • Denim skirt fits lovey on hips and thighs but is 2/3 inches shorter at the back 🤣
  • My arse eats everything and denim shorts become a spectacle and massively inappropriate
  • Hair in the shower gets stuck in my bum crack
  • i sat on a (plastic) toilet lid and broke it

I think my nemesis is denim tbh 🤣. Light hearted. Not a bad problem to have at all.

Why are clothes not made for a womanly bum though?! Women are meant to have curves no? I’m hardly Kim K!

Share with me your big bum problem ladies!

I am definitely with you on denim shorts or any type of short-ish shorts. They might look ok when I try them on in the shop but a minute or two walking in them and they have travelled all the way into the crack! I cannot wear them EVER!

Lol i tried on a midi dress once and it was still inches shorter at the back than at the front. I don’t have a pretty bum (it’s heart shaped) so it’s flat too - went to a club once and someone called it a waste of a booty lol.

Ha ha my people

Anything that fits over my arse and thighs is too big around the waist.

Dresses and skirts are obscene half the time.

I think my arse needs more support than my boobs do at the gym 🤣 someone invented a butt sports bra fgs.

U take up more space than anyone would actually think when on a sofa/chair.

Your underwear, whilst looking lovely on the models on the website is reminiscent of that scene from shallow Hal

Followwill · 21/07/2023 22:53

You need stretchy denim and a belt TBH.

I was only reading something earlier today about steatopygia 😬

I'm hourglass and have the same issue with a gap at the waist band- so always have to wear a belt with jeans.

Could you find a tailer and have the waists taken in? Do they make denim skirts with an elastic waist band? Would that work?

LilSebastiannn · 21/07/2023 23:16

@sommeliermama short shorts are never appropriate are they? 😂 End up looking like sexy pyjama shorts!

@Wenfy a heart shaped bum is lovely - that person is was rude!!

@Whatwouldscullydo I have put on a stone over the last couple of years (on purpose as I was too small IMO). This stone has gone all to the bum and bit to thighs. I recently ordered some nude none sexy knickers for me wedding, and I went a size up as I find I need for knickers. Thought oh those are BIG they won’t possibly fit - they fit rather well 😂

@CC4712 I have heard it this! I’m not quite as extreme but as mentioned above I’ve put on a stone and it’s all gone to bum, not boobs, not stomach… it’s mad, so maybe if I ate and ate I would get like that 😂. I did try a tailor but then had to take the waist in so much that the pockets look weird. Belts are deffo the one it’s just sometimes I think they ruin the look of the jean. For example when a very high waisted jean i think a belt looks good at the front but not at the back. So I’d save that for winter when I’m wearing a jacket. I’m fussy haha

I struggle with this too, though I don't think it's all bum for me - a combo of hips and bum. My comfiest pants are a size 14, but my tops are size 8/10 because I have a small waist and skinny upper body. There is around a 15 inch difference between my hips/bum and waist so a belt on jeans does nothing - I literally have folds of fabric to contend with. It drives me mad. I've found that dresses with a tie or stretchy fabric are easier to fit. Some kind of ruching or gathering can be quite flattering too because it can fit properly on the smallest parts of my body and stretch and become a bit looser to cover the rest. I don't own a single pair of jeans but am going to do a mass order from the ASOS hourglass range and see if I can find something. And, this is very specific, but I find that my upper body is quite long and skinny and my legs are pretty short for my height (5'6") and chunky. So swimming costumes have never fitted me - they've always dug in on the crotch, bum and shoulders. Finally discovered tall ranges last year which were so much more comfortable for my longer torso and didn't dig in around my wider parts.

I get so disheartened and upset when I go clothes shopping because I feel like I must have a weirdly shaped body. It is hard to find anything to fit and I have to try on so many items to find one or two. I'm seriously considering learning to sew or at least alter clothing. I learnt to knit a few years ago and have made myself some knitwear so I think I'd have the patience. I've taken things like nice dresses for a wedding to a seamstress to get the waist altered but never for everyday items.

I look bigger than I am because I've been very ill for a while and typically wear things like baggy joggers and hoodies which highlight my widest area. Elasticated waist joggers are still too big on the waist to fit my hips and start sagging down so I have to try tying them really tightly and I get unflattering folds of fabric towards my waist. I weigh 9.5 stone and people have been shocked when they have seen me wearing tighter clothes and asked if I've lost weight. Nope, this is my actual body shape and size but you mostly just see hips, arse and stumpy legs 🤣

I honestly thought the small waist and large bum look was trendy right now so why is it still so hard to find clothes to fit?
