Converse - size dilemma - will they stretch?

Bought dainty ox converse (faux leather) in a 5 and a 6. The 5s are a bit tight on my bigger foot, the 6s are huge on my smaller foot and look like boats. Can’t decide which to return - so first question, will they stretch?!

Following as I bought the e exact same shoes in a 6 and they are way too big and I'm a true 6. Waiting for the 5s to compare!

Hello shoe twin!

There’s quite a difference in size both in feel and look. I’m worried the 6s will crease badly especially on my smaller foot. I love them and def want to keep one pair. Swaying towards the 5s and breaking in with thick socks. When are yours arriving?

I wear converse most of the time, and don’t have particularly wide feet, but I did find the dainties too small. So since then I have stuck with the regular ones (are they called Chuck Taylor or something?)

blahblahblah1654 · 21/07/2023 11:09

@Tetchypants I ordered them yesterday afternoon so hopefully by Monday! The 6s are huge on me

blahblahblah1654 · 21/07/2023 11:10

Normal size 6 converse are fine on me

Findyourneutralspace · 21/07/2023 11:11

I have this problem with converse as I’m a 5.5. The canvas ones don’t really stretch. I always end up with blisters.

See I do have wide feet, but on this occasion it does seem the extra size is purely length which is a bit pointless for me. The 5’s look better, but my slightly bigger foot feels strapped in like a bursting sausage. Oh what to do what to do…

Also a 5.5 and usually fit perfectly. Sadly they don’t do these in half sizes.

I talk from experience - send them both back. They are not the right Converse for you. I ignored what common sense was telling me and within weeks of buying them ended up selling the size I’d thought would stretch for far less than I paid originally.

Xiaoxiong · 21/07/2023 11:52

I agree to send them back, especially if you have wide feet. Converse are narrow at the best of times and the dainties are even smaller. I have narrow feet and normal converse are just about ok for me, they don't stretch - they rip and the rubber will split along the side before any stretching is observed! I tried on the ones you have and I couldn't get into them in the shop with pop socks on as they seemed to be even narrower than the usual converse.

Tresto · 21/07/2023 11:55

I can’t wear them for this reason. I find they don’t stretch. I’m a 5 and the 6 looks daft. I just get blisters in a 5.

AllTheChaos · 21/07/2023 11:59

In my experience, whilst leather shoes can be stretched, the fabric ones won’t.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 21/07/2023 12:30

My faux leather converse were awful - very stiff and plasticity. I can’t imagine they stretch.

YukoandHiro · 21/07/2023 12:31

They don't stretch that much. I'd go with the bigger size if they're more comfortable.

Tetchypants · 21/07/2023 14:52

Starting to think they’re just too narrow and both might have to go back. Feeling sad. Damn my youngest child - I had lovely slim ankles and normal width feet before she came along, but they’ve never fully recovered.

Any recommendations for wider fit (but still “dainty”) trainers in a similar style?

I’ve ruled the 5s out for sure. Put them on while I had my feet up and could feel my feet burning with snugness. Got the 6s on now and they’re comfier but look like clown shoes and will crease badly. Ffs.

I know this is stating the obvious but have your properly loosened the laces all the way down? I used to work for a shoe company and people often forgot…

Obvious it may be, but no I did not. Doh. Had a brief walk about (on carpet) in the 6’s and they’ll rub my heels as they’re just too long. My big toe nail is just before the rubber toe cap.

I shall loosen the 5s loads and see if they feel any better. Top tip ta!

Rocket Dogs or Superga are better for wide feet.

Tetchypants · 21/07/2023 16:33

This all started because I wore a dress the other day and tried some of my daughters trainers on with it. I just looked clumpy and felt daft, so I reckoned more streamlined or lower cut trainers would look better and spotted these. For any Converse fans out there - the Dance Lace was by far my favourite every day style, but they replaced it with Ballet Lace which are definitely smaller and narrower on the fat footed.

To echo PPs, my advice is send them both back. I had the exact same dilema as you and stuck with the 5's. They were agony within 20 minutes of wearing them outside. Money down the drain.

I got these intead. They're not as dainty and the dainties, but more feminine than classic Chuck Taylor. Also supremely comfrortable (they have a memory foam insole - it's bliss).

@Tetchypants I'm definitely sending back the size 6. Still waiting on the 5s! Will let you know how I get on.

boboshmobo · 22/07/2023 21:38

Try the converse website , often they do half sizes but not all retailers stock them .

I'm wear 4.5 in converse and they only have them in some shops .

Good call @boboshmobo they do in fact do wider width as well as half sizes. Unfortunately, not in the lower cut styles I prefer 😥
