Am broke at the moment and decided to home dye my dark blonde hair as can't afford a hairdresser and the grey is coming through. WTAF. I look like Andy Warhol meets Bet Lynch - so blonde it's brassy. What can I do? Can I redye it tomorrow a darker shade or will it all fall out. Any ideas please?

Can you post a pic pls? I may be able to help. There's a few options available but usually and unfortunately the best advice is to get it corrected professionally. Hair will rarely ever fall out. But using pre lighter ( aka bleach) would be the only way to lighten it now. Definitely do not do that yourself

Maybe put a toner on? That might help make it less brassy

Toners only work if you're using the correct depth (this is really important) and neutralising tone to tone with. Blue neutralises orange and purple/violet for yellow.

IndianSummer78 · 20/07/2023 23:36

You can re dye it darker. But leave it a few washes first, home dye never all comes out on the rinse after dying, it will change to be slightly less intense after a few washes

Bearpawk · 21/07/2023 08:16

Yeah I'd try a toner. Is there a Sally's shop near you?

Blondiemyarse · 21/07/2023 21:15

I did a glacial blue toner and then honey blonde dye. It looks a bit frizzy but thank heavens I no longer look like a scrub daddy! Thank you for your help!

I know I can't ask for "a diagram" but would it be too crass to say post a pic or it didn't happen...? I mean Andy Warhol meets Bet Lynch is something!
Jokes aside not so long I dyed mine at home and I wanted brown but it came out very red-ish instead and I dyed it again after a couple of days but none of those dyes had ammonia. The first dye was a permanent one and the second one was non-permanent because I was worried about it being too much for my hair. It your dye had ammonia maybe go to a professional or you might end up with a "chemical cut".

Fanola No Yellow mask. Amazon sell it. It doesn't smell great but it works.

Blondiemyarse · 22/07/2023 08:44

No before photos. Here's a pot toner + darker dye - un brushed and a bit frizzy but much better. I brushed the second dye through and it looks vaguely highlighted. Hairdresser next time !

I'm no expert but in your shoes I'd baby that hair for a while. With masks, serums and the like or it might break. It usually doesn't break straight away, it takes a while. It doesn't look very frizzy to me right now but I'd use the Kerastase shampoo, the dark green one. It's really a temporary solution though, your hair looks fab while you use but if you use another shampoo it looks bad again, so really it's temporary.
Don't be put off by the hiccup. You just need to find the right dye, the one that works for you. Your hair looks lovely by the way!
