Ripped Levi 501s

Just bought some distressed Levi 501s in their sale. They have rips on the knee and thighs which look great, but does anyone have any tips on how to stop the rips ripping further? They are already bigger than I thought they would be, and I don't want them getting any bigger. I wondered about stitching the sides of the rip, but I dont want to make a mess of them. Thanks.

Yes, stitch the sides of the rips, or alternatively use iron on patches on the inside of your jeans. You can cut the patches to go on either side of the rip to prevent them from going further.

If you want to get artsy, you can use Japanese style visible mending (google instructions, it's not too difficult).

Thanks for your reply. Would you suggest denim patches? So, just around the edge of the hole/rip? I may try this.

I take mine to a local seamstress who puts a patch behind.

Thanks for your responses. As it is a big hole already and shows lots of leg behind it, I wont put a patch behind it. But I will try cutting up some old denim and iron on some strips around the edges of the hole just so it doesn't rip further.
