Sick of navy

I am looking for clothes for a new job, (yay) I have some black trousers and shoes and just need a selection of tops.
I want a darkish colour and the amount Navy is so annoying.
Some people think it looks fine with black, but it's not for me.

Congratulations on the new job.

It would be helpful to know what sort of environment you’ll be dressing for, and how much you want to spend. Also your clothing size and whether you are interested in looking vaguely fashionable, or not.

(Are you in a job - waiting staff, legal practitioner, funeral director - where black trousers are standard? They’re a bit of a dull option, otherwise - to me, at least.)

What sort of colouring are you, and what colours do you like?
Are you looking for shirts, jumpers, blouses, jersey...?
Is it smart casual or formal?

Oh I am just moaningSmile
I already have the shoes and trousers and prefer to wear black, I think every top I have that's navy has always been a compromise.
I have found some tops, it's very casual, but I wore an uniform before so have had to shop. It would just be nice to have more choice, not just black but more shades of blue, green and burgundy.

Imagine ironing that half asleep!Grin

I have bought rather plain things I can mix up, whilst wishing for jumper weather.

No idea of your budget, but have a look at Sezane.com. They always have some jewel type colours.

Thebirdhouse · 19/07/2023 18:40

If you want autumnal colours ie dark green, burgandy, brown, there will be more available from September.

For summer, have you tried cream tops? White and black can look like you work in the hospitality sector so probably better to steer from that. Or what about black tops with black trousers?

BTW do you have to wear black trousers? Colour and colour look more stylish.

I want to wear black trousers, I like them.
I am surprised that other people don't get fed up with limited colour options?

It's burgundy

BeggyMitchell · 19/07/2023 19:19

Bumping.

Navy doesn't suit me but it seems to be the go-to colour on MN for professional clothes.

DuchessOfSausage · 19/07/2023 19:49

It seems to be popular in shops too. I like it but don't want to wear it all the time.
Websites tend to be a sea of black, navy or off-white

mdinbc · 20/07/2023 07:38

If you are looking for basics, like suiting, then try charcoal grey, or a lighter grey for summer and fall.

I wouldn't wear a navy blouse with black trousers. There are endless other possibilities.
