Unfortunately, my H left out of the blue in April. We are getting divorced. He's been very unkind and life is hard, but that's for another thread.

I've obviously taken off my engagement and wedding rings, and as they were worth over £500. I have had to list them as an asset on the divorce paperwork and may she asked to sell them. I know there is a lot of discussion about whether this is required or not, but both our solicitors have told me to do it, so I have. I loved them, but I guess it would have been strange to keep them or wear them as they symbolise something which is over.

I would really love to buy myself a ring to replace them. I can't afford anything particularly expensive budget is probably around £100 ish.

I'm open to anything but am drawn to fairly chunky rungs rather than dainty ones. Would prefer to avoid anything engagement ring like. Ideally for ring or index finger. I like the ones that look sort of bashed, or burnished, maybe with a stone embedded or maybe have link to nature or freedom.

Can anyone suggest any brands please?

Check Monica Vinader - really lovely rings that are a bit different inc bashed and burnished

Would you consider having the rings remade into a new one?

I covet almost everything this guy makes:

Carrie Elizabeth - unusual and beautiful rings.

Same thing happened to me in April, it's shit. I took my rings to the jeweller to have them valued for Form E and he suggested getting them re-set into something "that doesn't remind you of your marriage". I think that's a nice idea and will do it, once it's confirmed that I don't have to sell them.

I quite like Posh Totty stuff, you can personalise, add birth stones and they do a hammered style.

Samanabanana · 18/07/2023 14:03

I love Carrie Elizabeth for costume jewellery

Do you have a resale value for the rings? I’d include that in the form. It’s often a fraction of the original price.

Not post divorce( I bought one for that 10 years ago!) but I can vouch for Monica Vinader
I have a lovely hammered silver sided turquoise ring on that finger and love it( style Daia?)

GinRin Jewellery on etsy or Instagram - gemstone rings

caringcarer · 18/07/2023 14:57

When you get the valuation make sure the jeweler knows it's for a resale value and not for insurance value because insurance value is always a high valuation. My engagement ring cost £4500 18 years ago but the insurance value certificate is for £10k which I find astonishing because I could probably get a very similar ring for £5.5k now.

Have a look at Uno de 50. I have a lovely chunky ring that was around your budget.

As an aside, I would object to wedding and engagement rings being part of the listed assets - they are a gift.

TrueScrumptious · 18/07/2023 15:56

But what are the rings worth now? It doesn’t matter what you paid for them.

Caroparo52 · 18/07/2023 16:00

Have stone reset as necklace. Once you've melted the gold down its hardly worth anything... useful for Form E..

I bought myself three stacked rings from Pandora when I separated. Rings for Women | Pandora UK

I did the same with the proceeds of selling my rings . I don't wear on ring finger though but my middle finger.
