Will modal knickers give me thrush?

Just that really! I always seek out cotton to minimise likelihood of thrush but they are becoming harder to come by (in nice styles). Modal and Tencel are everywhere…for those sensitive types like me…do you find these result in you reaching for the canesten? I like the look of Stripe and Stare but nervous of the material.

I wouldn't recommend Stripe & Stare as they don't last.

No idea about the material sorry but I found them v poor quality.

StarlightLady · 16/07/2023 08:43

I have never had any problems with modal. I don't have any knowledge of Stripe and Stare, I've looked at their website and it is not my style. But I think the secret lies in a decent sized cotton gusset.

I don't like 100 percent cotton for knickers as there is no stretch and personally I don't find that comfy.

Modal is cellulose like cotton, so although everyone's different there's no particular reason why it should cause you a problem.

British Boxers do cotton knickers as do Sloggi. They're both good quality.

I would second avoiding stripe and stare. Their underwear is pretty and very comfortable but the quality is poor.

I'm not keen on M&S modal. I buy their cotton versions.

TheGaffer · 17/07/2023 08:49

Ack I’m not going to take the risk…will stick to next I think!

I cannot wear Modal. Like bastard viscose/lyocell etc I sweat like a pig!

fetchacloth · 17/07/2023 16:14

I've been wearing modal knickers for a couple of years, and they've been great. No thrush or chafing and far more comfy than conventional cotton.
Mine are from m&s.

The OP has reached her conclusion on this, however, I think there is another issue here. I don't think so much on what the knickers are made of, personally I avoid cotton as they don't keep their shape, but the practical size and fabric of the gusset.

If you wear tights or leggings made from a synthetic fabric and wear knickers under them, which most people, but not everybody, does you are in the same situation as wearing non-cotton knickers anyway.

In other words the secret may not lie in the soil 😁, but in the gusset.

TheGaffer · 17/07/2023 19:02

@StarlightLady interesting! I do wear synthetic tights and leggings but as long as I’ve got my cotton knicks on (usually low rise shorts style so good coverage!) I’m golden. I am outraged at the tiny flimsy gussets that are everywhere at the moment though!

I have the M&S Body modal ones as I struggled to get any cotton ones and I really like my new ones.
In fact I like them that much I ordered another pack yesterday 😊
