Fancy dress - 80's

A fancy dress party coming up and I am thinking of Bonnie Tyler or Boy George. If you saw someone in a dress like this and big hair would you think Bonnie Tyler?

I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t think of Bonnie Tyler. However, if you had the big hair, eighties make-up, I would recognise the eighties vibe .

ElizabethVonArnim · 14/07/2023 21:24

I might make a little sign eg 'turn around bright eyes' to make it really obvious.

ElizabethVonArnim · 14/07/2023 21:24

The vibe will be excellent, though. Strong choice, OP.

Great vibe but not obvious. However a fat fat superior choice to leggings and leg warmers and a stack of bangles- so lame!!!

Fashion yourself some cardboard shoulder pads and you're away.

Isabelle70 · 14/07/2023 21:55

It's a maybe then. It's between the two as they were both number one at the time the birthday boy was born, in the US and UK.
I might need to fashion a bag that has some of the lyrics on it. I am a bit crafty and have been watching too much of the sewing bee!

Can you speak in a husky Welsh accent all night?

Fourlegsandatail · 14/07/2023 22:08

I Bonnie Tyler but a sign. maybe ‘Turnaround Bright Eyes’ on one side and ‘Holding out for a hero’ on the other

Unless you’re an absolute dead ringer for Bonnie Tyler, blonde hair and a strong Welsh accent, I don’t think most people would get it - especially if they weren’t old enough to remember the 80s. They’d think you hadn’t bothered to dress up at all and were just wearing a white dress! Been to lots of 80s dos and the costumes aren’t generally subtle.

NutellaNut · 15/07/2023 08:31

Your other option of Boy George is a great choice!

Isabelle70 · 15/07/2023 08:36

@NutellaNut yeah overnight I have decided to go for boy George. I know it's fancy dress but not sure if a white flowing long dress would be flattering and might spend all night explaining who I am!
White shirt and waistcoat in my basket ready for checkout.
Just to decide on the hat, bowler or fedora.
I am going to make/upcycle rather than buying a ready made costume.

He’s a convicted criminal - not a great choice

Went to an 70s do recently and the best outfit was a Tina Turner - Thunderdome inspired one.

80s not 70s (fat fingers!)
