Nails for DD13

DD really wants her nails done as a one-off treat at the beginning of the summer holiday. I’m completely clueless about nails so can anyone advise? She wants some kind of extension as hers are bitten very short and I want something that she can’t pick off and that won’t ruin her natural nails.

Acrylics? But cut shortish?

If this is a one-off treat, how is she (or you?!) going to cover the cost of the extensions going forward?

Confuzzleduzzled · 13/07/2023 17:38

@HundredMilesAnHour i wasn’t planning on covering extensions going forward. It’s just a one-off. I assumed she could remove them after a few weeks.

What a bizarre reply, did the OP said anywhere that she was struggling financially?

Really weird reply, just get them soaked off at the point they need infilling...

Yes get acrylics somewhere reputable, after about 3 weeks get her booked back to that same place to soak them off again, maybe get her a nail hardener and a polish she likes for after their soaked off as they'll have a little length after 3 weeks growth. Don't take her to one of the high street places like American Nails/ USA nails (that's what they're all called around here) where they use crap tools, techniques and products, look through Instagram at photos etc.

Factor the costs of proper removal in though as she will damage them picking them off herself.

Confuzzleduzzled · 13/07/2023 18:01

@Wildlyboring That all sounds good. How much should I expect to pay for both appointments?

I think it depends where you are in the UK, my nail tech starts at around £40 then goes up depending on detail etc. And about £15 to soak off.
