I am very happy with this box. Darling Nikki smells like a glamorous party in a beautiful room, candle smoke and perfumes. It is reminding me of a scent from the past but I can’t quite remember what ?
REN products always suit my sensitive skin, and everything else seems good too. I like the smell of the hand and body lotion.

MavisMcMinty · 18/07/2023 15:33

(The dahlias are just tubers with a couple of tiny green shoots on a few of them - can they really flower before the first frosts? They were only £1 each or I wouldn’t have bothered.)

MavisMcMinty · 18/07/2023 15:34

Can you use the REN cleanser on your eyes?

SwordBilledHummingbird · 18/07/2023 15:37

@MavisMcMinty I was wondering the same thing, I've been googling but haven't found anything definitive. I go through cleansing balms and gels quite quickly but cleansers that you can't use for eye make-up last me ages as I end up only using them in the morning and then I only need a tiny bit. I might try it tonight anyway, see if I manage to set my eyes on fire or not.

LoveLabradors · 18/07/2023 15:38

Confession time - I’ve only ever used the same cleanser on eyes and face! I always use cream, balm or oil cleansers and find they work perfectly on eye make up too with a flannel. Never occurred to me to use something separately.

I'm actually the same but, despite not having particularly sensitive skin, I find that a lot of oil or lotion cleansers irritate my eyes so I try to be a bit cautious. I have about a zillion travel size tubes of Origins Checks & Balances and it's going to take me a lifetime to get through those because I can't use them on my eyes. I'm going to have a go with the Ren milk though.

seathewayahead · 18/07/2023 15:44

I love the self heating eye masks. They are great for soothing my tension migraines. Pleased with this box, although I’m sure I already have that votary serum.

Peridot1 · 18/07/2023 15:46

I think I have used the Ren cleanser on the eye area but have to admit I prefer taking my eye makeup off first with an eye make up remover and a cotton pad.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 18/07/2023 15:49

Just gone through the box properly and I really am very happy with it. My summary:

Verden hand & body balm - Love this brand and wanted to try the new fragrance so very happy with this. I just gave it a quick test and it doesn't seem very strong but I think it'll work nicely with my more floral perfumes. I love all the other Verden scents but I probably won't feel the need to rebuy this one.

Votary serum - I love Votary and always use serum so again very happy. And yes, it smells amazing!

Vilhelm Parfumerie - I love perfume and I love this brand and I'm happy to try another of their scents. It'll have to wait until tomorrow as I'm wearing Floral Street's Wild Vanilla Orchid today and I want to get a proper feel for the scent.

Ren - Happy as long as I can use it to take off eye make-up!

Aromatherapy Associates - I like the scent of this and have recently used up a dry body oil in the same scent. I'll probably end up using as a body oil as I have to be very careful of what I put in the bath and I don't see the point in using it in the shower if it won't also get me clear.

Malin+Goetz - I have to be careful with shampoo as most irritate my scalp but I'm quite low on conditioner so this will be nice to try.

Eye mask - This is the one dud, I just don't see the point in these. Might put it on Vinted.

TheChosenTwo · 18/07/2023 16:31

Okay I was thrilled opening it to find so many things that I hadn’t tried but i coming back to this to update.

eye mask: I like and use these already, they are great post migraine so happy with this one.
shampoo and conditioner:tiny and won’t do my hair in one go plus don’t like coriander (who wants coriander smelling hair?! 😂)
cleanser: will definitely use this, I like most ren cleansers but not tried this before.
bath oil: another one I haven’t tried, I do like AA bath oils so happy to have this one.
serum: looking forward to use.
hand cream: put in my bag for work, always handy.
perfume: horrible 😂 totally not up my street, this, the shampoo and conditioner will be going to a friend.

so on reflection I’d say not a bad box for me at all, gave up advent calendars and beauty boxes a long time ago now so unless I have specifically chosen and bought something most of these things in the BD are new to me - my favourite things I’ve discovered and re bought are a different vilhem perfume, a hair oil and a hair milk, all staples for me now.

ferretface · 18/07/2023 16:51

Got my box too, missing the conditioner but I'm not overly fussed and probably won't bother reaching out.

I like the perfume - find it has quite a strongly vintage vibe, but could be influenced by the fact I was already wearing NR Musc noir (which has some similarities to another great frag of the 80s, Poison) when I sprayed it. Smelt a bit like I'd walked into a hippie shop (incensy) when I first sprayed but mellowed down quickly. Now on my hand it is clean woodsy scent in the drydown. I have found all the Vilhelm Parfumerie scents I've tried have grown on me and I bought a full bottle of the Basilico Fellini so very interested to see how it is when it's not competing with another fragrance.

I find the spacemasks deeply underwhelming tbh but I'll use it up at some point. Pleased with the rest of the box.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 18/07/2023 16:53

@TheChosenTwo I have chronic migraines and never thought to try the masks, do they help then?

MavisMcMinty · 18/07/2023 16:54

It’s at least 90 minutes since I sprayed on a tiny bit of the perfume and it’s still there, subtle and lovely.

YourBonesAreWet · 18/07/2023 16:58

Mine still isn't here but I use the rest of the calming range from REN so I'm looking forward to trying the cleanser.

laclochette · 18/07/2023 17:03

The perfume really reminds me of YSL Opium ... Not my bag at all, but always fun to try new perfumes. Unfortunately my absolute fave Liberty-stocked house, Frédéric Malle, doesn't ever participate in promotions/gifts as far as I can tell. Not wildly excited about anything in this box tbh - but it's always a nice effectively free something to look forward to, and that's half the pleasure I think with these things!

It must be tough for Liberty to get the balance right between experimental products people will be really curious about getting to try for the first time, and things that a lot of people will like or find practical. With so much skincare and beauty innovation around these days, I had hoped for some products whose formulation or application was completely new to me, like the new batch of over-makeup SPF sprays or similar, whereas things like hyuralonic acid serums or a hand and body lotion feel a bit too standard for me to get inspired by them.

Pigtailsandall · 18/07/2023 17:06

I got mine! It was apparently just dumped at the doorstep. On my way home from work so will open later when DC is asleep and I can have a glass of wine

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 18/07/2023 17:08

I really like the perfume and i'm not normally a fan of the brand

listsandbudgets · 18/07/2023 17:08

Do you think Liberty have someone who reads this thread and takes our feed back on board?

MavisMcMinty · 18/07/2023 17:08

I wonder how many beauty drop subscribers Liberty has? They must get given - free of charge - loads of sample/travel sizes, as must all the other brands of beauty box, or else get everything for a £ or two, as I don’t understand how else any of them could make any money. But year after year there are more and more boxes (at least boxes I hadn’t known about before), so somehow they must be money spinners.

They should have - email them to suggest they read MN if they don’t already! I know very few people in real life who are as mad about “beauty” stuff as us on this thread. It would make getting rid of unwanted items so much easier (but I give it away anyway, they say people give the gifts they’d most like to receive themselves).

GayPareeee · 18/07/2023 17:15

I really don't like the perfumes, smells like Youth Dew. Love the name though, got me singing the song, DH looked at me, agog

ferretface · 18/07/2023 17:21

Liberty makes money from me on beauty drop for sure - I'd buy the occasional perfume or candle from the store in person but very infrequently. This way they have £20 of my money every month and likely that I will spend more than that if I want to make a large purchase. Definitely have bought things from Liberty that I would have otherwise bought elsewhere because of it. I reckon the brands supply the samples for exposure. Not checked the dates on the full sizes but could also be a way of getting rid of short dated items.

I sincerely hope so

Neilsfavouritechilli · 18/07/2023 17:28

I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit underwhelmed. I'm looking forward to trying the cleanser and serum but the shampoo and conditioner will be 1 use at best as I have long, thick hair and whilst I enjoy a space mask, I usually get them from Amazon for next to nothing. I might change my mind when I try stuff.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 18/07/2023 17:31

The perfume smells like l'air du temp tried to glam up for a night out. Not for me.
