Grey hair with gold jewellery

Can it work? Everything I read online says grey hair clashes with gold and you should stick to silver / white gold / platinum. But that just doesn't suit me. I've been wearing rose gold as a compromise and I do like it but there isn't that much choice. Can yellow gold work? My hair is salt and pepper rather than white. Hazel eyes. Id say my skin is sort of olive-ish. I've tried the veins to see if my complexion is warm or cool but my veins are deep and I can't really see them enough to make out the colour!!

It’s down to your skin colour not your hair colour. Was told this when I had my colours done.

How can I tell if my skin is warm or cool though if I can't really see the veins?

If you have tanned/olive skin, gold will look fabulous on you. It depends on what you’re wearing too. Cooler shades - greys, lavenders, mauves, sky blue etc. suit silver, and stronger colours - hot pinks, sapphire, navy, etc. suit gold, but it doesn’t matter a whole lot.

I don't do yellow gold any more, doesn't work with grey hair on me.

Mostly wear silver tones, but do have a bit of rose gold.

@CapEBarra that's interesting that you say that, because lavender, sky blue, pale grey look awful on me. I mostly wear stronger colours. Maybe that means I can still wear gold. It's funny that moat advice seems to say not to. Maybe I'm an anomaly or something

@Sarvanga38 have you found that clothes/ makeup colours have changed for you as well? I still seek to mostly suit the same colours as before. Pastels look awful on me

I had my colours done, I’m an autumn so wear khakis, browns, rusty oranges. I was told it was skin colour that determined what suits me rather than hair. And gold goes with my colour palette not silver.

so wear whatever you feel suits your skin tone.

Yes definitely - mostly because I used to wear a lot of pale grey 😆and that is a definite no go now.

Bright/jewel colours best on me now.

I grew out my grey around two years ago after decades of dyeing it my original dark brown.
I'm quite warm-toned too with brown eyes.

I don't wear much jewellery but find white gold is generally now the most flattering and yellow gold the least. I've always loved rose gold so wear that too. As you're olive-skinned I imagine yellow gold, as long as it isn't a very rich yellow, would still suit you.

Although I knew about the importance of taking skin tone and eye colour into account in relation to grey hair, it wasn't until I'd grown mine out fully that I realised just how many of the shades and colours I assumed would now look good, still didn't! Like you, cool-toned clothes and pastels look awful on me, and while a warm charcoal grey looks fine, a cool silver grey really doesn't.

Grew my greys out a couple of years ago and had my colours done. I'm a spring and can definitely wear gold..but most of my jewellery is silver so I mix it all up and wear a combo a lot of the time.

Interesting thing is when I had my colours done she showed me what silver did to an outfit V gold and a definitely preferred the gold.

Cocolapew · 09/07/2023 14:45

I wear a mixture of gold and silver, I'm very grey/silver, pale but with dark eyes and brows.

Just put some gold on and see how it looks surely? I'm a blonde with peaches and cream complexion and yellow gold looks great, rose gold not so good and silver/white gold/platinum looks blah on me.

If silver doesn’t suit you then your complexion is likely warm. Which means you can wear gold jewellery and look good in it. I understand the question about grey hair though as white and grey are cool. I think this is why some people feel that their grey hair doesn’t suit them v well - if they are very warm toned skin. Silver hair is often talked about as looking great with black clothing, silver jewellery and red lips. Which is a winter colour pallette. Having said that though, I struggle to see that a natural hair colour wouldn’t suit someone. If gold jewellery suits your skin tone then I don’t think your hair will change that. But as you know that silver doesn’t suit you, you’ve obviously got at least a bit of an eye for this stuff, so what do you think when you wear gold jewellery with your grey hair?
