Another bikini one

Do you think high waisted bikinis make a round tummy more or less obvious?

I am quite slim in general but have a really round stomach since kids, I look like I'm pregnant.

I wear swimsuits when swimming most of the year but on holiday in Spain the summer a swimsuit is just too hot and uncomfortable. Tankinis also too hot and always just ride up. But I just feel so exposed in the bikinis I have, my tummy just looks bad and I'm scared people will think I'm expecting.

High waisted seems a good halfway house but then half of me thinks the extra material just emphasises is. Maybe I just need to stay at home 😭

I have just come back from Ibiza and I promise you, absolutely promise you, you will see bodies of every single size and shape - with boobs out and all sorts- so please don’t worry about this. Of course choose something you feel confident and comfortable in, but trust me once you’re there you won’t worry at all. I am a size 18-20 and I wore a bikini top from New Look and bottoms from Modi bodi- high waisted black ones which meant I didn’t have to worry about my period starting either (period swimwear)! Just go and enjoy yourself.

Absolutely it makes it worse. Look at photos on swimwear websites and see the same models in different bikinis. The more material the more it emphasises the size. It will always look like a failed attempt to hide something.
Just wear one that fits without digging in or gaping..

I wear mid rise ones so they stop just below my belly button. I like elomi bikini bottoms and buy the bikini tops separately

atthebottomofthehill · 09/07/2023 08:02

Thanks everyone. As I suspected @Marchintospring ☹️

@dementedpixie I'll have a look at that brand, thanks. Buying new swimwear is always traumatic though!

@Xrays thank you for the encouragement. I think I'm just a bit stung from being asked if I'm pregnant a couple of times already this year 😒

Belle lingerie sells separates and I buy elomi bottoms from there. Have bought bikini tops there too

KnittedCardi · 09/07/2023 08:41

Invest, if you can, in a more expensive one. The material and cut are always better, they last too. I have a few from Pour Moi and Bravissimo. Mid rise is best for tummy's. I'm also too old for bikinis apparently, but don't give a shit 😂

Hi OP

some great replies here.

Now I'd not worn high waist before and have a couple for my hols in a few weeks but you do need to take care with prints I've found as I think it's the combination of extra fave and busyness of a print can make you look bigger IYSWIM

I found a lovely square neck leopard print bikini top on mmm in M and s recently which with the matching bottom (high waist) looked so bloody frumpy. However I tried it on with a non matching black roll too bottom and it looks really lovely. So yes, roll too bottom seems a good compromise as they tend to be a bit higher over the time. And I think not matching plays a bit of an optical illusion too

I'll try and link

I agree. It draws the eye to it. Same for high waisted jeans and shorts, just an expanse of material emphasising even flat stomachs.

I have a bikini and sometimes wear short board shorts over the bottoms. And a gym type Lycra vest over the bikini top if I want to keep the sun off.

I've started putting my bikini in hand luggage as I don't think I'd be able to find a similar replacement that easily with all the 'massive pant' bikinis in the shops,

foldover

atthebottomofthehill · 09/07/2023 12:56

Thanks for the further advice!

@grass321 yes I always travel with at least one swimwear outfit in my hand luggage for exactly that reason!

@KPops22 I like the look of those bottoms but I have had fold over ones before and find they sort of unfold themselves and I kept having to fold them back over or tug them down, do these do that?
