Laser hair removal

I'm considering getting my underarms and bikini area lasered. Anyone had it done? Worth the money? I usually wax but would be nice to get rid of it permanently. I have pale skin and dark hair so supposedly good colouring for it to work well.

I’m interested in the answers to this. I go to the gym a lot, and my armpits look dark even when I’ve shaved. I wonder if having them lasered would stop it .

DinnerNightmare · 03/07/2023 21:21

Yes! I've had my underarms done about 10 years ago and it's the best thing I've ever done. I've recently started laser treatment for my bikini area too and am already seeing great results.
I had a couple of top up treatments on my underarms about 4 years ago but haven't needed any since. So glad that I longer need to wax. So much better.

It’s worth it if you get someone using a real laser. Lots of places offer ‘laser’ but actually it’s a light system which won’t work as well. You need proper medical grade lasers

Amazongirl9 · 03/07/2023 21:28

Had mine done about ten years ago too. It's been absolutely fabulous. I would definitely recommend it. The sooner you get it done the more years you will benefit from it. I think modern lasers are even better now.

Have you tried waxing or epilating? Might stop the dark shadow issue you're having

Good to know, thanks! Was it painful?

No, I don’t let it grow long enough to wax

It's definitely a real laser, the beauty therapist sent me the details of the machine she uses so I could research it.

Have you needed any top up sessions? I'm definitely leaning towards getting it done

Some of the best money I’ve ever spent! Had 6 lots of laser to legs/bikini/underarms back in 2019. I have literally a handful of hairs on legs/underarms and probably shave once a month. I’d like to have a couple more sessions, especially to the bikini area (haven’t yet had due to the pandemic and two pregnancies), to get to the point where I never need to shave, but the results are great. It’s so fab to be able to go swimming with my toddler without the need for any sort of special preparation 😂.

I got my bikini line done 13 years ago and I only touch up now with my Philips Lumea.

Got this during lockdown and has been a complete game changer for legs and underarms.

alargeoneforme · 03/07/2023 22:03

I used a very reputable salon with a good laser machine and results were very poor for me (pale skin, dark hair) but then I used a Lumea and it worked wonders. Genuinely life-changing. I believe they are 2 different systems. Laser vs IPL. Just saying in case laser doesn't work so well for you, there is an alternative to try. And much cheaper!

It's not painless but also doesn't hurt any more than waxing and definitely not as bad as epilating. I'm having a full Hollywood treatment at the moment and it's done in 10 minutes, most of it is painless apart from the occasional shot. I use ibuprofen beforehand.

BigBundleOfFluff · 03/07/2023 23:12

Got it done 6 years ago. It's amazing. I do notice the odd new hair on my legs but I just tweezer them out. For me the best bit is no ingrown hairs = no picking = no scars/marks.

BeverlyBrook · 03/07/2023 23:19

Yes and yes!
Proper Lazer, not IPL works really well on pale skin and dark hair. I've had 5 sessions and there's basically no underarm hair anymore. Bikini line is pretty tidy and legs are mostly hair free. It's amazing.

Lazery · 03/07/2023 23:21

I'm halfway ( 4 sessions) through underarm and top lip treatment and the difference is very noticeable ie little to no hair growth.

Once I've completed my sessions I'm
Going back for chin and bikini line. It's fairly pain free.

I'm really pleased with the results so far and am sorry I hesitated for so long before doing it.

Happyfluffball · 04/07/2023 01:47

Yes it is totally worth it. I haven't had to do any hair removal for the last 5 years. It took a lot more sessions for the bikini and underarm area though Vs legs and arms.

AliceMcK · 04/07/2023 02:33

I had underarm and bikini done about 18 years ago but I never completed my treatment, I had 8 out of 10 sessions. At the time they said that they couldn’t guarantee permanent results and when I hit menopause it could all grow back.

I use maybe 1 razor a year on my underarms, and that’s only in recent years (I’m definitely in menopause territory) and I’ve maybe shaved my bikini half a dozen times in recent years. It definitely worked in the early years. I’ve often thought if I’d finished my course I’d probably not have to worry about my underarms or bikini at all.

I also had my belly done for free, never had any big black hairs since.

Im very fair and dark hairs.

Amazongirl9 · 04/07/2023 20:07

@SweetAndSourChick3n I have a few left over stray hairs that are very fine and almost invisible. More the type you can only see if the light is right. I wizz a razor over my armpits about once a month in the summer. No other top ups once the course was finished. I cant remember how many sessions I had. I also had my bikini line done at the same time. Prior to the laser, swimwear and beach holidays were a nightmare, shaving every day. I never really got on with waxing.

EmbarrassingMama · 26/08/2023 08:20

Definitely recommend! I’ve wanted it for years and finally decided to go for it. Went for full legs and bikini and because of the packages they offer it was hardly anything more to do underarms too, so I did that also.

I’m pale with dark hair like you OP and between my first and second sessions (~5 weeks) I only had to shave once! I couldn’t believe it. I had my second session about 2 weeks ago and haven’t shaved my legs since then and don’t need to. My bikini line is amazing, I have been in a swimming costume quite a bit over the summer and it’s a game changer!

I also get KP (chicken skin) and that’s hugely reduced on my thighs. Could never wax or shave my bikini line previously without getting horrible rash. Go for it!
