Clip-on sunglasses

Could anyone recommend some good-quality vaguely stylish clip-on sunglasses? DD 17 badly needs some and I am reluctant to shell out for actual prescription sunglasses as she’s not terribly careful with her stuff. Thanks!

Honestly, try Asda for sunglasses instead. You can get prescription ones for £45 (lenses and frames). Obviously it's more if you want fancier frames, but their budget range should do for sunglasses.

I'd like to know this too. This will be my first sun holiday since getting reading glasses but my prescription is probably out of date already 😬 so I want to avoid prescription sunglasses if possible.

Am in Ireland so no Asda unfortunately!

I've seen a few of the magnetic clip on sunglasses lately that have actually been not too bad - sadly only seen them online and not in the opticians near me. But might be worth a look as they're better imo than the ones that clip on with clips. I'd been keen to hear about any specific examples if anyone has any stylish suggestions.

However you would have to pay for new ordinary frames with the prescription in, as i think the magnetic part has to come with the original frame, but once you have that, you might be able to buy repeat magnetic bits!!

I don't want prescription normal sunglasses as I hate taking them on and off and changing for a different pair when I go indoors, which I'd need to do in order to see anything.

Can she wear contact lenses and then just regular sunglasses?

Frieda12 · 03/07/2023 16:09

Cubbits do clip on and flip up ones but I don’t know if they only fit on their own frames

Frieda12 · 03/07/2023 16:09

Cubitts, sorry

I have these from Leightons Optician. They're great although I'm not very careful and have already bent them a bit. I really need a hard case for them rather than the soft slip case provided.

BrunchMonster · 03/07/2023 20:58

What brand do you have? I did find one optician that had two pair ,but one was very big for me, and the other very round - I guess sunglasses have to be kind of round to look right, but they have to look OK without the clip part too or it's not worth it.

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/07/2023 21:58

I cannot imagine any 17 yo agreeing to wear clip on sunglasses

BrunchMonster · 04/07/2023 09:37

actually the first person I saw with the magnetic clip-ons in recent years was a teenager! (a bit younger, though). Not seen so much of the flip up type.

Toomucho · 05/07/2023 13:13

@BrunchMonster the brand is eco. I think the sunglasses look better than the glasses! Is that because sunnies always look cooler?!😎
