I am stunned.....stunnned that a good bra can make THAT much difference....!!!!!

I came here before xmas moaning and ranting about bra fitting in M&S, and the fact that my bra's don;t fit, yet M&S tell me to lose weight instead of measuring me properly.

and all that after I have lost (apparently) too much weight anyway since my (3rd) car accident, and am now in a sz6 jeans!!!!

anyhoo........

came for a rant, and got good advice (thanks to thos that did), and went today (finally!!!!) to john lewis.

what a refreshing experience. the lady was lovely.....measured me by looking and judging (slightly disconcerting, but still, she didn;t comment except by offering good advice about the bra I was wearing in a very nice way), and then went and got bras for me and helped me lots....and then when I had that slight bulge under my arms (which I hate and always comment on), she just said..."oh, for goodness sake, we all get that a little....tis part of being a sexy woman!".

what a difference to the M&S ladt who told me to go lose weight and tone up!!!.

I am now the proud owner of a fab new Triumph bra (not that sexy I admit, but god, how much sexier I feel!), altho £25 lighter.

I am most shocked tho by the difference the right sixe and bra makes to how I feel and look.......DH immediatly noticed ( and ), and I kept looking at myself cos of the way my clothes looked......BETTER!grin]

and........I felt taller and as tho my boobs were held better, and my chest too. sounds strange, but I am truly shocked by the difference.

BTW....I am now a 32C or 32D (depending on style), after years of thinking I am/was a 34C.
shocked is an understatement......

it's SO good, isn't it? worth whatever you pay imo. M&S bra fitting 'service' is a disgrace, they shouldn't be measuring, they need to just let you try on a zillion different bras and see which ones make you feel faaaabulous.

Psychomum5 · 23/02/2008 22:33

I tried on many bra's.........Triumph seemed the best to fit me, and to make me look fab, altho TBH, so far, the styles aren;t that sexy.

mind you, the lady brought me many T-Shirt stye bra's as I have to say, I am a busy mum and told her that was mainly me.

sexy would be good tho, and DH has offered me many sexy (well, maybe 2) for mothers day.

watch this space.....am still in shock tho!

I've not been measured for a while, but I generally don't find M&S bras the best fit (I am 34B/C depending on style). I love Triumph bras, they are worth the money imho! Am wearing one now! You won't regret forking out at all

Smithy · 23/02/2008 22:37

I agree!

Before I got fitted (admittedly in M&S but they did a good job!), i was wearing a 36D. Came out wearing a 32DD. Now a 32D! What a difference! Norks where they should be !

Psychomum5 · 23/02/2008 22:46

I aree with the 'norks where they should be'

DH has been saying for weeks now that I am going 'boy shaped', with the lack of boobs (well, they have looked 'flattened' with the lack of decent bra!), and now....well.......he is looking forward to bedtime!!!!

John Lewis are fab fitters aren't they? I'm same size as you - and love the Triumph bras.

JingleyJen · 24/02/2008 11:17

I was amazed when I was first fitted away from M&S.
Boobs held, boobs not too big, felt sexy again..

The lady in M&S told me that they don't do them in the size combination I needed so I should go up a few back sizes to compensate for not being able to have tat cup size.. it was a disaster.

Great that you have finally found a good bra!

Psychomum5 · 24/02/2008 11:51

I still stunned....and happy!

john lewis rocks for bra fitting IMO, and M&S needs re-teaching.

am now dropping many hints to DH about how many bra's I am going to need......seeing as I have many of differing colours and styles to go with different tops.

me thinks a small loan might cover it.

OR, I am going to be washing my one and only each night by hand, to ensure I am never without the one that fits right

robinpud · 24/02/2008 11:55

John lewis sizes don't correlate with M and S. In particular M and S assume most people who are 32 want padding for some reason. But they have got a few decent 32C and 32 D ones now.
John Lewis are far better fitters generally.

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2008 13:37

actually, imo if you've got larger breasts then bravissimo are even better than JL.

JingleyJen · 24/02/2008 16:55

am with you on that Aitch.
32H 34/G here depending on manufacturer, better selection at bravissimo.

Psychomum5 · 24/02/2008 16:56

bravissmo.....really???

{hmm], something to think about....I have never considered myself large enough breast size to even think of going to them.

oooh......more types to ponder on

OP posts:
MABS · 24/02/2008 17:06

bravissimo are just marvellous.

systemsaddict · 24/02/2008 17:07

Oh it's such a revelation isn't it!! M&S measured me over my clothes, wearing a bodysuit, and told me I was 40A. In a proper bra shop I turned out to be 34DD. And getting the right size made SUCH a difference - I looked like I lost several dress sizes instantly, and started getting stared at in the street. It was years ago now and still one of my most transformative experiences, I'm evangelical about good bras!!

Mind you I've been in horrid maternity / nursing bras for the past 2 years and probably for another year at least to come ... but am already saving up for a massive lingerie shopping expedition for after dc2 (due May / June) eventually weans!

Welcome to the secret sorority of properly fitted bra wearers psychomum5

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2008 17:08

you should give them a try, psycho. freya bras are amazing, imo, and they stock a good range in bravissimo.

ShinyDysonHereICome · 24/02/2008 17:08

My entire body shape has changed for the better since going to Bravissimo

Bought 3 beautiful bra's - was £90 altogether but the best money I've ever spent.

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2008 17:10

40A? jesus, that's bad. i was 'fitted' with a 38ff in marks, i could fit the cups on my head and the underwires dug into my armpits horribly. i'm a 34/36 c/d, depending on make.

motherinferior · 24/02/2008 17:11

I have to confess I've done Rigby and Peller - but then I am 44

A proper bra also makes you look younger because it returns them to where they were before age and pregnancy wreaked their worst.

Psychomum5 · 24/02/2008 19:46

ooh flame swears by rigby and peller, and she's still in her 20's, so age no difference.......and LOVES 'em.

she is planning another trip there this year, and I wanna go too (she is off with her mum n sis tho, so no me[sob]).

tis DDD2 and DH's b/days today.....had SIL, BIL and their kiddies for dinner (well, over for dinner.....having them FOR dinner would be rather cruel).....and even SIL commented on how good I looked.......she couldn;t work out why, just that I did. Told her, and she is rather stunned and impressed too.

oh, so looking forward to next weekend and more bra's now!!!

Another vote for Freya bras. I got some fab ones having been really well fitted at a shop called Leia in Bluewater. They have lovely bras in there that actually fit. I went from a 38a/b (M&S) to a 32dd/34d (depending on make). Will never buy from M&S again.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 24/02/2008 19:51

It's fab isn't it?

After years of wearing the wrong size bras I was persuaded by a friend who is a bit of an evangelist (her mum used to be a breast care nurse) to get measured.

Went to Debenhams, ditched my 38C bras for 34F and felt like I'd had a boob job. It was so liberating and gave me a huge confidence boost. I can't wait to get out of my grubby droopy feeding bras and back into nice supportive, but sexy, bras again!

Re feeling taller; I think it makes you stand better, shoulders back to show em off

ratbunny · 24/02/2008 19:51

I went to m&s for a bra fitting yesterday, and so far I am happy with what I bought.

to say, that is is 2 years since I have worn a properly fitting bra!! with being pregnant, then breast feeding, then finally never having time to go and get measured - I can't believe it has been so long.

Now they aren't down by my belly button, and I have cleavage!

KatyMac · 24/02/2008 19:56

I only wear Freya bras now - I remember one day in JL when I tried on over 40 bras and the lady (after getting her supervisor in - she was off that day) gave up & said they didn't have a bra that fitted me

constancereader · 24/02/2008 19:58

Another vote for Freya. I need a good bra too, I am a 32FF

Psychomum5 · 24/02/2008 19:58

for the cleavage.....that is what I have again, altho it hasn;t been a long time TBH, tis only cos I have lost weight that I am feeling flattened and 'odd' (for want of a better word!).

Feeling taller because I stand better???
YUP, I have to agree there.....DH says I am standing 'proud' again and showing them off.
