I know I am not on trend with this but I have a couple of sporting events which will involve lots of walking.. what are the best comfy sneaker types that will look okay with a dress?

It depends on the terrain

My daughter bought these in TK Maxx recently - they are really comfortable (we wear the same size so I often borrow her stuff). They had them in plan white and in pale blue with white stripes as well.

Birkenstock 'Bend Low' leather trainers. Love mine (in black though), a very simple design so I feel they go with everything.

It depends on the terrain

Nothing too rocky, one is at a racing circuit

I'm currently looking for a comfortable canvas sneaker that looks as least like a trainer as possible.

If I could be sure I could unpick the Superdry logo I'd go for these. (That's not because I care whether Superdry is in or out. I just don't like visible logos)

Superdry vegan sneakers

I'm also tempted by these. They're pretty, and I'm certain all the posters who care about which brand of trainer is "on trend" will hate them.

Radley sneakers

Metallic ones from Hush? I find these more comfortable than Converse. They also have them in off white leather.

I've lived in a pair of canvas lace up Vans which have arch support for the last 3 summers, including many camping trips. Comfy and not over hot and reasonable grip. Mine are a light beige neutral shade which goes with everything but is not "white trainers". Otherwise Supergas (where my previous go tos but the Vans were cheap in the sale).

FlibbedyFlobbedyFloo · 04/07/2023 10:57

I love much Supergas. Much more comfortable than my Converse or Adidas ones

KevinDeBrioche · 04/07/2023 10:57

Nike AF1 or Stan smiths are my go to

Alarae · 04/07/2023 11:11

I recently bought Adidas Superstars as my generic trainer for all things summer. They are great and comfy for my wider feet.

Picked up mine in the sale for £35ish.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/07/2023 13:20

I’ve got these from M&S. I bought them after I tried some New Balance, which were really uncomfortable, and they are so comfortable. I hardly ever have them off my feet. I feel like buying another pair for when this pair are worn out.

bellac11 · 04/07/2023 17:23

Birkenstock trainers, I took the plunge and got 2 pairs. Now wondering if I should get more colours...

GettingStuffed · 04/07/2023 19:14

I was out and about with a lot of people last Saturday and the vast majority of those wearing trainers were wearing, Nike or Adidas or Reebok trainers rather than the tennis shoe style

GettingStuffed · 04/07/2023 19:15

In many colours that weren't white

Persiana · 04/07/2023 19:20

Second Birkenstock low bend, I have them in sand and they look so nice, different to white but go well with light and dark clothes

I second these. They're lovely. I did have the leather ones but they split fairly quickly. My canvas ones have lasted a few years now. Also OP, Next and M&S do some gorgeous trainers at very reasonable prices.

beguilingeyes · 04/07/2023 19:28

Everything is more comfortable than Converse. I don't know how people wear them, the soles are so thin.

What about Rocket Dog Jazzin? They’re probably not trendy, but extremely comfortable. There are about a million colours and styles and currently have a sale on! I’ve had about 5 pairs so far: https://www.rocketdog.co.uk/collections/jazzin

Ooh I like these.. do they have arch support?

No, they have memory foam insoles, but there doesn’t seem to be any additional support in the arch area.

I love Adidas superstars so always recommend them I think they are suitable for any occasion but look neat.
I'm disabled so need traction. They have this too
