Pear shape - can’t find clothes, please help

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 02/07/2023 07:31

I am smaller on top (size 14) and have wide hips and a big bum (16/18). I am looking for nice comfortable summer clothes but nothing fits me or looks right on me. I don’t like H&M or Zara. Recently tried Boden and out of 10 items, one looks good on me (a dress).

i don’t like big patterns or florals that much, mono colours ideally (and don’t like skirts). But I need some summer clothes, jeans etc. I find it all so depressing, literally most clothes look so shit on me.

anyone has suggestions or recommendations please? Or knows of any pear shaped influencers/insta accounts?

Thank you

I'm a similar shape/size and in my experience, all of those shops cut for the more "straight and narrow" body shape.

I have had recent success from Sainsbury's, Crew Clothing, Whistles and Brakeburn; sadly I no longer have a "go to" place, where I'll always find something that I like, fits well and is natural fibres.

I've gained some confidence since moving to skirts, much easier to dress for a pear shape I find. What is it you don't like about them?

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 02/07/2023 08:10

My thighs are massive and they rub together in skirts. Also feel my hum looks hug in them.

Thank you @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads I will try those brands.
I have been feeling so down since trying on a ton of clothes and none fitted properly.

I’d also give M&S a go.

Timwith2noses · 02/07/2023 08:23

I’m a pear and I find M&S jeans fit me well - I like boyfriend style that I can turn up. I often buy from Zara (sorry, I know you said you don’t like there), M&S, warehouse/new look for trousers. Sometimes Oliver bonas/cos. Styled by susie is a pear shape - and styleidealist on insta. Might help with ideas.

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 02/07/2023 08:25

@Timwith2noses thanks! Will check those on insta!

which bits do you like from Zara?
i always forget M&S exists tbh! Will give it a try too!

I like a shorter dress over trousers. Linen wide leg, jeggings or jeans. Then either a tunic or a wrap dress over the top.

Trousers cancel out chub rub in the heat.

Wrap dresses accentuate waist and bust and then nicely blur the issues around hips bum and thighs if they are A-line.

I’m not a proper pear but have a really awkward body to dress with smaller upper half, big bum and thighs but also wide shoulders and have found that a lot of the clothes that I get from Stitch Fix are really flattering. I also used to avoid skits and dresses in summer due to thighs rubbing but got some thin bicycle shirts to wear underneath and now like wearing them. Lots of places do them but the ones I’ve been using are from Sloggi or Snag’s Chub Rub shorts https://snagtights.com/collections/chub-rub-shorts/products/stay-cool-chub-rub-shorts-caramel-latte

ha! ime, all shops cut for pear & apple shapes.

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 02/07/2023 09:15

@SimonsCow thanks. The style of dress would probably suit me but I don’t think florals suit me.

@PhillyJoe great tips thanks. I will invest in some of those shorts.

@lljkk glad it’s amusing for you

M&S has great choice of jeans, lots of which suit pear shape.. also some nice tops and dresses

I'm a pear shape too, and I'm finding lots this season, but unfortunately lots is h&m- typical! I'm going to share them anyway.

I live in these trousers, and I wear them loose and sitting on my waist, with either a fitted stripe/ print t-shirt tucked in, or a slightly halterneck/ racerback vest with them. I wear a large in the trousers, and they're a loose fit on my size 14 bottom, so XL should be a comfortable fit. T-shirts are baggy this season, and I think fitted looks better, so I size down- I'm a 12- 14 top and small fits fine, so a medium should work well, in the h&m tees. But the key for me is finishing your trousers/ top across the slimmest part of your waist

I'm a similar size to you OP- pear, size 14 on top 16/18 on the bottom. I've put on a lot of weight over the past few years but I'm actually liking this season. Long floaty dresses- Monsoon have got some nice ones in their sale, look at smaller independent shops with mid-range dresses too. My knees have all but disappeared (working on it😬) so I've been living in maxi dresses. If I'm wearing leggings I wear longer tops & hoodies, I have a pair of capri length jeans from
M&S last year

Im a pear and recently tried stitch fix with some success

ToBeOrNotToBee · 02/07/2023 14:10

Very, their own brand clothes fits me like a glove.

doorstopper123 · 02/07/2023 14:11

Also, re chub rub? A good spray of deodorant on the inner thigh works wonders
