Nails cracking & splitting from sides, low down on the quick

My nails are never great, prone to breaking, splitting & peeling. But this has got worse lately, always low down from the side so I have to cut it really low on the quick, which is sore. Things that have usually worked like Nailtiques ( usually really good), Nail Envy, OPI oil, just don’t seem to be helping to prevent this at all now. I’ve had four split this week. Can anyone suggest anything that might help please?

Have you tried hair and nail supplements ?

Resurrecting this thread as things haven’t got any better, worse if anything. Since tried OPI repair mode which if anything seemed to make them more brittle. Taking nail supplements, collagen supplements, biotin.
I even bought some nail wraps after reading about them on here. Seemed to be doing ok till one broke today from the side even with the wraps on! They get very sore when they break low below the quick. Anyone know what I can try next please

Using products is not going to help if the problem is nutritional, which it likely is. When my nails were brittle it was because my B12 and iron was low. I ate lots of liver initially, then increased the amount of protein I was eating in general. That sorted it out and my nails are very strong now.

Do you use metal clippers? I get this sort of split if I do.

I get this sometimes; I use cuticle oil and hand cream daily, especially at night. The cuticle oil really helps. I thought splitting nails were the result of dry cuticles.

Mine do this, always have. It’s so annoying, they just get to a nice length and then this happens, and it takes weeks for them to grow again, then I get another split.
I’ve never been able to stop it happening, but I find a drop of superglue on/under the split stops the nail splitting right across and also stops the soreness. You have to renew the glue every few days.
