What item of clothing are you most sad about having to say goodbye to?

For me it's a pair of pull no viscose patterned light trousers with a slight taper - that are so easy to way. They are my go to fat pants while also being fine for wearing outside and even out out.

I've had them 10 years from a random purchase in an airport. They are a great colour. I've mended them once but they are on the way out. I'll be so sad.

I used to work in Monsoon and bought a grey silk jacket with gold embroidered flowers on it, it was a Kimono style absolutely gorgeous. I sent it to the charity shop this year as it no longer fit me.

I had a white summer blouse from F&F (Tesco) which I absolutely loved despite it being one of my cheapest ever purchases. I had the blouse at least 12 years and was gutted when it stated to literally wear out.

I've been scouring eBay and Vinted for years looking for someone selling one, so imagine my joy at finding the exact blouse for sale 2 weeks ago. I snapped it up and it arrived and it's perfect, so I guess I'm sorted for another 10 years 😁

I had a jumper when I was pregnant with my youngest son and I really found it comfortable to wear. Sadly last winter I noticed it had got a hole on the sleeve so I reluctantly threw it away. I know it's hard to believe but I had that jumper originally from Mothercare for over 20 years although some years I didn't wear it. I just felt a bit sad throwing it away.

I had a gorgeous jumper as a student, it was quite pricey and very distinctive and I wore it so much, it pretty much disintegrated after about five years.

I noticed it had got a hole on the sleeve so I reluctantly threw it away. Visible mending is a godsend for these situations!

Yes to visible mending! Otherwise owning wool seems to be a losing battle against moths.

I miss the most perfect Topshop jumper ever that I've had to let go of, thanks to each pregnancy leaving me with more boobs than previously.

Beautiful soft fine wool knit, in thin cream and orange stripes. Fitted, with interesting vertical seams (darts?) at the front (Unlikely, cos it's over a decade old but if anyone has this in a 14 or bigger and wants to sell it....?). I have searched eBay etc for years.

My indoor only lounge pants, I get a new pair about every 8 months, wear them literally to death and then have to say a sad goodbye.

I had a denim chambray shirt that was just perfect. It lasted over 10 years but was disintegrating in several places when I finally had to say goodbye to it. I bought a similar one after that but it's just not the same.

A lovely pale blue cotton long sleeve t-shirt/top from Next, circa 96 that my partner bought me when we first dated. Just had to consign it to painting & gardening as moths & wear & tear have wrecked it.

PaperNests · 27/06/2023 19:15

I had the softest airiest woven cotton summer dress that I wore for about 10 summers until the fabric wore thin in so many places I couldn't repair it any more. I breastfed my babies in it too so it had extra sentimental value. I actually found the same dress nearly new on Vinted a few weeks ago and in my current size too, I am so happy.

mdinbc · 27/06/2023 19:18

I have a pair of denim capris that are on their last legs (pardon the pun!)
I know capris are not 'in' and are said to make you look matronly, but I am a matron, lol, and they are just right... straight leg, higher waist, nicely faded.

BeyondMyWits · 27/06/2023 19:27

Just this morning I put my trusty navy linen cut-offs in the council rag bin. Too many holes and fades. I thought I'd look for the same thing... 15 year old with BHS on the label... Not much hope!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/06/2023 19:32

The lovely white top I bought from next last week. That has sunscreen statins that won't wash out. And when I tried to bleach it, it got covered in bizarre pink stains that I can't get out. 😰
