Dyson air wrap - am I missing the point?

I just can’t make it work. I would love to be able to get the hang of it but my hair does not hold the curls

It is straight and fine usually, so I wonder if this doesn’t help. Or maybe the fact it’s been bleached.

Does anyone have any tips?

I returned mine! Liked the hot roller so bought one for £35 and use that instead

Itsaknotat · 25/06/2023 16:00

Sell it is my best tip. Nothing makes the curl hold. It's not hot enough.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 25/06/2023 16:04

Awful! Not worth the money.

I just use a normal hair curler and put rollers in!

latelydaydreams · 25/06/2023 16:10

Are you using any product?

usernother · 25/06/2023 16:13

Are you using the cold air shot to finish each curl?

useitorlose · 25/06/2023 16:13

I can make lovely curls. They hold for about 2 minutes.

trevthecat · 25/06/2023 16:15

I use a moose in my hair when wet and curls last till next wash. I think it's down to hair type though. So many are disappointed

ivfbabymomma1 · 25/06/2023 17:02

I sold mine! I don't understand how it has so many good reviews??

usernother · 25/06/2023 17:18

I love mine. It can v loose curls which I like but I mostly use the straight brush attachment.

RedPandaFluff · 25/06/2023 19:31

I loved my Air Wrap but I had to use the cool shot for ages and a concoction of hair products to get the curls to stay in, and they only ever lasted most of a day at that.

I sold it in the end because it just took far too long. Bought an automatic curler from Amazon for £30 and love it!

Tinkietot · 25/06/2023 19:34

Mine works amazing but I have a natural kink / curl to my hair. I found having my hair slightly damp works the best with a bit of curling moose / product. It will last 3/4 days till I was it.

Meerkitkat · 25/06/2023 19:35

I have straight fine hair. I love it. I use it to give my hair volume which lasts for ages, like I've got really thick hair..

I don't think they market it correctly. Most people can't seem to get the curls to stay in but it's fab for creating bounce and volume.

Meerkitkat · 25/06/2023 19:36

Although annoyingly it doesn't work In the US and im going to Florida soon 😬 I'll just have to have sad flat hair 🙄

frootie · 25/06/2023 19:40

Works on my hair which is extremely thick and wavy. I wash and curl it once a week and it holds all week.

Does the moose not object?

I'm sorry, I know it's a cheap shot. But I now have a vivid mental image...

It depends on your hair type, I tried so many products and techniques but the curls don't last in my hair. To be fair I can't hold a curl with tongs either, not even the hairdresser can make them last. I've kept mine though as I like the flat brush attachment.

You would think my hair would hold a curl as its naturally very wavy but only on its own terms!

I ended up tying my hair up so much because of the heat and humidity in Florida, I had all these lovely plans of my hair down but I was too hot and sweaty when not in air conditioned buildings or on air conditioned transport. So you may not miss it as much as you think. Enjoy Florida.

@incognitopurple you need to put product in your hair to style it. For me I use a texturing spray to make my hair more "sticky" and thicker which adds lots of volume and I use a styling spray to which activates on heat. Your hair has to be almost dry for it to dry the curl on the barrel, always cool shot it. I think the best tutorial for it is Fleur's and like me she doesn't section her hair although she has far more hair than me. My hair is bra strap length. I spray it with hairspray when off the barrel before moving onto the next piece of hair to curl otherwise I can see it dropping slightly.

Agree with the marketing incorrectly comment. I love mine for a blow dry (much prefer it to Revlon or Babyliss), but the curls are way too much faff.

bibbityboppityboo · 26/06/2023 09:42

I love mine! I have fairly thin hair but a bit of it with a natural wave when dried on its own.

The airwrap is a blow dry tool so it won't give you the same staying power / look as a curling iron - it's not meant to. It gives great bounce / volume and lovely curls / waves when used with the right products in the right way. Are you local to a Dyson store? I booked an appointment for a blow dry and they taught me so many tips and tricks and it revolutionised the way I used it - I can now get a bouncy blow dry at home which was my aim!

beeskipa · 26/06/2023 09:53

Agreed with those saying it's not marketed right.

I loooove mine for volume and looking 'done', but it's not a curler.

It makes me look like I've had a really good blowdry and if I do it properly on a Sunday (from damp, with product, in sections - takes about 40 min but I have a lot of hair) and refresh a tiny bit (literally 1-2 minutes adding a few waves in on each side) each morning it looks good and like I've made an effort for 3-4 days.
