M & S chinos

Has anyone tried this and find the fit strange? I tried a size 16 a few months ago and they didn't fit quite right. Now lost nearly 2 stone tried a 14 and they are a bit tight around the tummy but really loose in the legs and bum. I have some gap ones from a few years ago in a 12 and they almost fit. Just a bit tight in the waist so I wondered if the m and s is a weird fit or I need to lose a bit more. I know we're all different shapes though

Yes I tried them, they're not a great shape at all. They also cling to my chunky calves!

mynameiscalypso · 24/06/2023 21:29

I'm average size but I've found the petite version fits me much better.

darkmodeon · 24/06/2023 21:58

Those look a terrible shape. I don't think it's you honestly.

Moveoverdarlin · 24/06/2023 22:00

I tried those on. I’ve very slim legs, but belly wise I’m between a 10 and a 12. I tried a 12 in these and I couldn’t even get them on. Weird sizing for M&S.

RampantIvy · 24/06/2023 22:11

I'm a pear shaped 12/14 and they look fine on me. Mine are ankle grazers, so maybe they hang differently?

bellac11 · 24/06/2023 22:16

Im wearing these at the moment. I bought the first pair off ebay size 20. The waist is now too big but the pockets look as if they're straining so I dont think the fit is great. However they are lightweight and comfortable and I can pull them in with a belt and turn them up so that they are genuinely above my ankle, unlike most trousers I find these days. Now Im just fitting into the 18s I then bought, but again with bulging pockets, but I wear long tops to cover that over.

yoshiblue · 24/06/2023 22:16

I've always bought Gap chinos, M&S are a weird fit

LawksaMercyMissus · 24/06/2023 22:20

I find they really dig in around the button and aren't flattering on me

SpringSummerDreamer · 24/06/2023 22:25

From the photo, I wouldn't say they're too big anywhere, maybe a bit tight over the hips on side view (stretching of pockets). Traditional chinos are quite a relaxed fit and maybe suit a pear shape better than an apple. Saying this as an apple too!

BungleandGeorge · 24/06/2023 22:30

Have you got a square on picture?
I think they’re too tight on the waist and tum and that’s what’s making the bum look weird. I do find M&S trousers are small in the waist of late which suits my shape, I’d say Gap are cut more for straighter body types so may suit you better. The material of the M&S ones is also pretty thin which doesn’t always hang as well as a thicker chino. I think it’s impossible to cut for all body types!

Thanks all. Appreciate the comments. I think I'm at a weird point at the moment with my shape as well. I am carrying a lot of fat around my thighs and stomach and I've been working on toning my legs through running, walking and dance fitness and am slowly losing the pouch around my stomach. I just really like them and wondering whether they'll fit differently when I reach target. I feel good that my gap ones nearly fit though 😍

They're definitely too tight on the waist but if they were bigger wouldn't they look baggy everywhere else. I thinking sizing has gone tighter though as my gap ones are a us 8 so uk 12

I've always found Gap run a bit big so it's not a good comparator.

Chinos are supposed to be loose in the leg. Given these look dreadful, what is it about them that you love? We might be able to find you some that fit that you also love!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/06/2023 23:26

I appreciate the honesty. Although I was feeling quite good about the gap ones lol. I'm not sure. I like the feel and the patterns. I mean I'm not buying anything until I'm at target. 2 stone left. Appreciate any recommendations though. Thanks 😊

I’ve tried these on and I normally fit a M&S 16 trouser perfectly, but these just look wrong. I think it’s the cut which is off, because the pockets bag out regardless. I made my much slimmer friend try them to see if it was just my fatness doing it, but they did it for her too.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/06/2023 23:39

Thank you so much @HeidiUpTheMountain That's really helpful. I think I'm going to stay away from fitting rooms for a bit and enjoy getting back in my old stuff. Although I got a nice vest from M&S the other week which looked lovely with a skirt I had from primark

This looks far better.

I tried on some chino type trousers in Next a few weeks ago and they were dreadful. They didn't fit (other Next items in the same size do) and I could tell the cut was really bad.

I think just keep trying places. Chinos are tricky because, as you say, there is little give in the fabric. Maybe try FatFace?

Bemyclementine · 25/06/2023 10:56

@Moveoverdarlin I'm so pleased you commented this- I am usually a 14 but have put a few lbs on. I picked up a couple of pairs to try, a 16 and an 18, thinking I'd try the 18 they'd be too big so I'd go to the 16. Couldn't get them to meet at all. I knew when I was pulling them up it wasn't going to go. There's no way on earth I'd be a 20. It's bonkers.

Thank you. I've ended up not tucking the vest in when I wear it and think it suits me. Bit risky posting that as already worn it lol. So appreciate that
