Denim shorts for wider hips

I'm struggling to find denim shorts that fit me. I have wide hips and a small waist.

I find that shorts are either too tight at the top of my legs if they fit my waist or I have a massive gap above my bum at the waistline of they fit on legs.

Also, why are they all so short!? A lot seem to end just below my bum cheeks.

I've tried lots of A line style, but on my they don't seem to make a difference.

Anyone with a similar shape found the perfect short?

I find mom style generally caters for this, although it's not always the most flattering on the waist.

Have you looked at the ASOS design 'hourglass' range? I'm not sure what shorts they have, but the range specifically caters for bigger busts, bums, hips and thighs

I have to wear a belt. A summery fabric one. This sort of thing.

Abercrombie and Fitch. The only jeans I can wear that don't gape at the waist and fit over my hips (and thighs!) and I've just bought a couple of their shorts which fit just as brilliantly - and aren't indecently short. Their normal range fit me well, but they also do a curve love range which has even more room for hips/bum/thighs relative to waist size.

@anon2022anon thanks, I will try some mom style ones. I have tried the ASOS hourglass range and actually found my usual size to be way too big, the ones I ordered weren't weren't flattering on me though so sent them back. They were very straight. I just had a look on the website and they seem to have a style
I've not yet tried, so I'm ordering them. Thank for the reminder.

@CindersAgain and @anon2022anon a belt is a great idea if I can't find the perfect pair, don't know why I hadn't thought of wearing one with shorts.

You've described me - try Sainsbury's, for both jeans and shorts. Their courtesy are online too, tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/

@alwaysrootingfortheantihero Ooh I hadn't even thought about looking at A&F! Do I go for my normal size? I'm a size 10, would that be a 27 or 28? Or should I size up? I once bought a bikini from there and the bottoms were so small I've never worn them! Didn't know they did a curve range, I will be trying it for sure. Just added a couple of pairs to my ASOS basket 😃 Thank you!

I'm an 8-10 and wear a 27 - I think that's my actual waist measurement so I guess they're pretty true to size, at least for any high/mid waisted styles - might be worth a measure,

bubblecity · 24/06/2023 06:03

Abercrombie's "curve love" line is great!

notanotherclairebear · 24/06/2023 06:24

Sew a piece of elastic into the waist line - super quick to do (loads of YouTube tutorials!) and you don't need to worry about a belt. I used to do this before I had kids and my hourglass turned into an apple

WhereAreWeNow · 24/06/2023 07:25

I agree with suggestion of 'mom cut'

Allthatyouhave · 24/06/2023 08:33

Another vote for Abercrombie curve.
I've got a 29in waist and 44in hips and these work well.
