Is there any way of replacing the buckle or belt even if you don’t like the buckle on a trench coat belt?

Yes, but it depends on the belt.
I wouldn't replace the buckle on a £££ coat.

The difficulty will be in finding a replacement buckle of the same size and weight.
I'd wear the belt closed so that all of it sits at the back.

If you post a photo of the belt including buckle, you'll ger advice.
