What do you wear to work in an office job these days?

I’m back to work soon after a few years out looking after children. Office job, corporate environment, middle management.

Before I left it was pre-covid so lots of smart trousers, shirts, blazers, dresses and heels, suit for conferences / presentations / client meetings etc. Occasionally a floaty but sort of formal dress.

i think things have changed a lot since covid - what’s everyone wearing now?

Today I’m wearing a Blondie T/shirt, a long floaty black skirt and Dr Marten platform sandals. We aren’t client facing though and are very casual.

Yesterday, I wore jeans with a flowery sleeveless top and a jacket. Ask what the dress code is before you go shopping. I only wear "office clothes" if I need to go to a networking event or external meeting

I wfh but when I go into the office (Government agency) I still wear a suit (I'm male though so it's an easty choice for me) I'm significantly in a minority with smart casual definitely being the norm for men and women (and tbh bloody scruffy not being that unusual).
I think it really depends on whether you are in a customer facing role or not, but I'd recommend starting formally and then you can get the office vibe and adjust accordingly.

Sen. management, finance, corporate - dress/dark jeans with blazer, straight ankle grazers with a blouse/shirt. Definitely more relaxed than pre-covid - I'd say we went from full professional to business casual.

We were all quite formal pre COVID, we are now doing hybrid (2 days per week in the office) and we are all very casual. No jeans, but everything else is acceptable.
