Wedding outfit for 11 year old (oct)

DD's uncle is getting married in October. I need some ideas for a dress reluctant 11 year old. I might be able to persuade her to wear one if it's not frilly etc. As far as I am currently aware, it is a civil ceremony, DD will not have an official role, although my DC are the only on his side of the family.
Throw ideas at me please. It won't be über formal, but we still need to make an effort.

What about make up? Would you let her wear some? (If yes, what and any good YouTube tutorials aimed at natural look for her age?)

I don’t think mango is expensive! Those look more like beach play suits though. Not really Oct wedding clothes.

@RequiresUpdating My DDs liked Zara at 11. They will have autumn clothes a bit nearer the time. I would favour a dress and coat combo. Zara are great for modern updated clothes that DDs want to wear. Mango might too nearer the time.

I would swerve the make up. Nice hair is best.

I'd allow mascara and a lip tint and her hair done.

What about something like this

I recently bought this dress from Zara for my not-so-frilly DD.😅 She can pair it with biker jacket or cardigan. Black ballet pumps or a boot. GL!

I showed her the link @EmmiJay and she isn't impressed! I think she needs a bit of time to get used to the idea of a dress! She's never been to a wedding before and DH is terrorising her with descriptions of flower girls 🙄
@CC4712 shes average height, but very skinny. I'm not sure she would fit a woman's cut but I'll keep it in mind.
I'll keep a look out for ideas for now, (and make sure I speak to SIL before buying anything!)

Why does she need to wear a dress at all?

Mother's forcing girls to dress in certain things is very outdated.

Ask her what she'd like to wear.

RequiresUpdating · 22/06/2023 06:41

@wildfirewonder she doesn't have to. Not least because I know she'll come back with "I will if you will" 🤣
MIL will certainly expect her to, I don't. No idea what SIL-to-be thinks. So I want to have some ideas up my sleeve before I speak to them.

Don't worry, I have never forced DD to wear anything. She has always had free choice in her clothes (as long as it's weather appropriate) because I never had.

I do think DC do not always get free choice in life. They do have to realise that, at times, you do things to please other people. Especially at an event that means a lot to them. Therefore I would look at various smart options that might include trousers . I found these on the Zara web site. I cannot see why these would not be suitable.

I'm all about teaching kids they don't rule everything but OP is only talking about not forcing her Dd into a dress, the suggestions above might well be suitable although as the mother of a 12 year old NOTHING i suggest will be met with enthusiasm . OP isnt suggesting her Dd goes in shorts and a t shirt.

Oh. I didn’t double check my link https://shop.mango.com/gb/girls/dresses-and-jumpsuits/tulle-bow-jumpsuit_47064388.html Meant this rather than a long list!

It's lovely, but it will look as though she wanted to be part of the bridal party, will upstage both the bride and flower girls!

OP, no need for make up at that age. She will probably enjoy a special hair-do, maybe braids that will last beyond the day so she can show-off to her friends.
