Budget Summer Clothes

I need some more clothes for the hot weather but on limited budget, say individual items £20 and under. Has anyone found any bargains recently? I don't like to wear anything remotely low cut though which I'm finding is making things very difficult. I got a nice dress from Poundland recently but it was the only one I could find in the shop that wasn't low cut. Need shorts too and likewise finding the cheap stuff to be so short I'd be hanging out of them which again is really not what I want...help!

My favourite thing to do is go on the clearance part of the Next website, type in what I'm looking for filter by size and sort price low to high.

It's quite fun to play with and if you have the annual delivery charge deal ( £20 or so) then free to deliver and try on at home.
Got a few bargains for me and the kids.

Dustmybroom · 18/06/2023 17:04

Asda are doing some good shorts at the moment. I got some linen mix ones and others which are all mid thigh.

Just a reminder if you haven’t already, to go through you current wardrobe, put your winter clothes away, give away/ sell what doesn’t fit or suit you and pull out the things you like. Think about what items you need to go with them and then focus on purchasing them only. I’ve just done this and it really helped me with my summer wardrobe.

I am almost 40, not a fan of anything too low cut or short. This week I picked up a few sun dresses in Tesco for under £20 each, decent length shorts in both Matalan and Primark. All seem decent quality for the price.

Findyourneutralspace · 18/06/2023 17:07

I’ve had a couple of nice summer dresses from the supermarkets- Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Tadashi · 18/06/2023 17:07

Another vote for George @ Asda. I also like Tu clothes from sainsburys.

Someone always recommends secondhand on these sorts of threads but I really do get a lot secondhand. I like Vinted but also use eBay

DCINightingale · 18/06/2023 17:07

If you're not bothered by second hand, I've had some bargains on Ebay. Lovely dresses for only a fiver in great condition. I check regularly and sort by ending soonest to see if there are any things I like and end up with a nice mix of stuff

H&M for decent linen

WeightoftheWorld · 18/06/2023 17:16

I'm on Vinted, sold a few things recently and bought a pair of shoes (new with tags). I'm totally fine with secondhand if I can see what I'm buying but not online, too many stories of things being not as expected and even taking away bad sellers things like fit, how sheer something is etc you can't tell without seeing it. Which is ok with an online shop as you can return it but not via Vinted/eBay so that puts me off. I don't want to buy and then it's not what I expected and I've watched the money and can't send back.

Yes!

inappropriateraspberry · 18/06/2023 17:31

Supermarket clothes. Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's all do good quality ranges on a budget. Most of my clothes are from supermarkets as there's nowhere else nearby to buy clothes from! I find them as good, if not better than many high street stores.

Mercurial123 · 18/06/2023 17:33

Try www.everything5pounds.com not used them myself, but you might find something there.

H&M linen is cheap, but it's not good quality.

Doggymummar · 18/06/2023 17:34

Terrible person that I am I got loads from Temu. The quality is fine, like supermarket quality nothing special and summer stuff seems to get ruined, sun cream fake tan etc took 5 days to arrive

rookiemere · 18/06/2023 17:39

Some of Morrisons clothes are actually pretty good. Their t shirts are 100% cotton and they have some fun colours.

It's very hit and miss. Quality is usually on the lower scale and you have to pay postage.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/06/2023 17:44

Tu at Sainsbury's have some great summer things in at the moment
I buy lots of Vinted but always buy denim shorts on there as they're not worn very often
Denim and cotton dresses too

rookiemere · 18/06/2023 17:55

Oh yes @uncomfortablydumb53 the Sainsburys stuff is great atm.

WeightoftheWorld · 18/06/2023 18:13

Fab thanks everyone. I actually love Sainsbury's for the kids' clothing and I got a few random bits reduced from there super cheap a few months ago so it's a good shout. Asda also good idea as I can use blue light card there in the app I think even for clothes?

I don’t know if this is allowed, but do you know where you could buy a top like this, but in white?

H&M have a great sale on at the moment. I got 2 dresses, sandals (birkenstock dupes), bikini bottoms, 2 bikini tops, a t-shirt, 2 dressy tops, shorts & a jumper for £65.

Coffeeforus · 20/06/2023 07:00

Have a look at charity shops but you do need to keep going in very regularly. I’ve got into doing this and have had really good stuff to the point I really baulk at some High St prices now for even the most basic things.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 20/06/2023 18:30

Matalan

DuchessOfSausage · 20/06/2023 20:11

Charity shops and be prepared to rummage.

Rina66 · 20/06/2023 20:50

Have a look at Jane's Stall, lots of big store clothing but at very reduced prices....
