Fine, straight, shoulder length hair that holds no curl - dyson hairdryer or airwrap ? or something else? What has worked for you?

My hairdryer blew up so I need to replace it! Would love to give my straight, fine hair some volume - what has worked for you? Currently thinking of a dyson hairdryer or airwrap but happy to be persuaded about something else!

I find the airwrap useless so can’t really help sorry. Dd gets on better with it, not sure if it’s my technical or my hair but I’ve watched loads of videos of what to do and it does nothing.

TimesRwo · 16/06/2023 18:58

I think the Dyson hairdryer is massively overrated. I guess the only real pro is that it’s healthier for hair, but that’s it really. I wouldn’t waste your money on it.

reddingweddy · 16/06/2023 19:00

Revlon OneStep!
I have the same hair as you and found this to be a total game changer

Yikesno · 16/06/2023 19:02

Dyson corrale- it's absolutely amazing. I also have airwrap but just use it as a hairdryer as the curls it gave me never held in my fine hair. The corrale was a game changer for curling my hair.

Itsaknotat · 16/06/2023 19:04

Please do not waste your money on an airwrap. If you must, get it via QVC so that you can return it when you figure out its pointless. Get a decent hairdryer instead (not Dyson) and good old fashioned velcro rollers.

Vinvertebrate · 16/06/2023 19:04

Airwrap curls are pretty limp ime so I’d say that wouldn’t be any good for hair that resists curl.

DraconianDen · 16/06/2023 19:06

My hair sounds similar to yours and I get good lasting curls with the GHD creative curl wand

TrishTrix · 16/06/2023 19:09

My hair sounds similar.

I have a parlux, round blow drying brush, sectioning clips and an acceptance that my hair is my hair!

I aim for sleek, shiny and not flicking out at the bottom!

Ilikewinter · 16/06/2023 19:11

It sounds like I have similar hair to yours OP. I sent my dyson hairdryer back, it just made my hair a frizzy knotted mess.
I went back to my £20 Babyliss 😂

redspottedmug · 16/06/2023 19:18

Revlon Onestep. It has a oval shaped brush for root lift. It's static, so it doesn't spin around
and tangle your hair.

bingohandjob · 16/06/2023 19:25

My hair sounds similar to yours. I use a Parlux when I do blow dry and finish with Babyliss Big Hair. The thing that's made the biggest difference to maintaining the condition, shine, volume and bounce I get in my hair has been using this after washing/conditioning https://www.pureology.co.uk/Collections/Colour-Fanatic/Colour-Fanatic-Multi-tasking-spray (you can find it in various places with discount codes) I saw it recommended by a YouTube hair stylist (I'm generally not so easily influenced but he described all the things I was feeling frustrated with in my hair - dull looking, no bounce, not holding when styled etc and generally a good heat protector) and I really rate it. I'll replace it before I run out! I finish off with a quick run through with straighteners and over last 6 months or so of using it, the difference has been noticeable.

I have the same type of hair & found the Dyson hairdryer really disappointing, it literally did the same job as a £20 hairdryer. Complete waste of money.

Fairymother · 16/06/2023 20:11

Airwrap wont hold on your heair i think. It works on my already curly hir, but my friend with fine straight hair borrowed it a couple times and her waves fall out after 30mins.

Workbabysleeprepeat · 16/06/2023 20:26

Another vote for Revlon one step. My hair is fine and shoulder length and it gives good shape and volume

Buttonmoonmrspoon · 16/06/2023 21:10

And another for Revlon one step! Also got fine hair, just below my shoulders, prone to frizz, and this has been the best hair item I have ever owned. Hair is straight and frizz free. Really quick and easy. Absolutely love it!

YouTarzan · 16/06/2023 22:29

Heated rollers

Mother87 · 16/06/2023 22:41

Old school but brilliant & the ONLY thing that helps my poker straight hair hold a curl/wave - a perm every six months

SybilWrites · 17/06/2023 15:47

Thank you everyone - seems quite unamimous. There appears to be more than one Revlon one step - which model is the right one?

And also, I have a Babyliss big hair - is this the same thing as the Revlon?

Mine is the one step volumiser. Black and pink. There’s another where the end lifts off I think, but I don’t have that one.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/06/2023 12:32

Revlon One Step. It's not the same as the Big Hair as the brush doesn't spin. I have this one https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8170358

BellyBeGone · 18/06/2023 12:44

I have the Airwrap and the Dyson hairdryer. I adore them both ❤️ makes my fine hair look fab.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/06/2023 13:56

I have a Babylis Big Hair (with two barrels Lge/Sml ) I can switch the spin off/on and it can go clockwise/anticlockwise which is essential for when it tangles my hair !

Haven't used it for a while though, my hair is very fragile at the moment

I bought a Dyson dryer (from QVC) , my DD uses it more than me , she has long thick hair .
I use it on cool setting .

It's an Investment so it's our Communal Dyson.

I think this is mine, the original size.

Hazelnuttella · 18/06/2023 14:46

I like my Dyson hairdryer but it was a gift and I definitely wouldn’t buy one. It’s just a hairdryer. I like that it has a cold setting but many cheap hairdryers do too.

MrsLamb · 18/06/2023 17:20

Love my airwrap but ate beans for at least 6 months to pay for it.

Super-easy, with a cold shot at the end and the right styling product I get good results on my impossible to curl fine, straight hair.
