White trainers masquerading as pumps

Addicted2Sugar · 15/06/2023 20:02

I love a white pump with a Summer dress but have flat feet and wear inserts - attractive and restrictive - lucky me! I saw the doctor once who told me off for my flatties saying I needed to have "proper trainers" on that will lift me.

I have always known that too flat is as bad as too high and hate seeing school girls in ballet pumps but godammit I am grieving for a pump.

I have googled, walked round sports shops and haven't found the solution but maybe you'll know of something perfect?

So a proper trainer with arch lift (eurgh) but looks un-trainerish enough to go with a dress/skirt??

Loads if women round me wear New Balance trainers so they look like trainers rather than pumps. Would you consider that?

Tallisker · 15/06/2023 20:04

Why would you only wear one?

OkGoogleFoff · 16/06/2023 07:25

per the new balance post above I think the trend now is away from pumps towards either heritage styles (e.g. gazelles) that probably won’t offer you support, or to really technical looking trainers even with dresses. I’ve compromised on the latter style with these: https://www.nike.com/gb/t/tc-7900-shoes-QtFZSW
Alternatively Birkenstock are really pushing their trainer range with the cork footbed and these look much more like pumps.

I find Puma suede have arch lift, and they're not your classic 'sporty' trainer. Think they do white.

If you want actual trainers Nike have arch lift and are my go to for sport and exercise.

I also got told off by a doctor for wearing flat shoes with no support when I had plantar fasciitis.

Hairbrushhandle · 16/06/2023 07:42

Skechers do an arch support ballet looking shoe. I think in black and taupe colours.

There's a brand called sloafers which do hybrid ballet pump trainers but they're expensive and I suspect aren't that comfy for the price.

LancreWowhawk · 16/06/2023 09:11

If by 'pumps' you mean low rise, minimal trainers, like old-style green flash ones, then Adidas Gazelles have a lot of arch support, to the extent that I can't wear them - I have lowers arches, and it feels like there's a massive lump in them.

Also, Birkenstock Bend come in a very nice looking canvas upper for a similar sort of thing.

If by 'pumps' you mean ballet flats, I think you might be out of luck for anything with too much support.

How about these OP Jada Renew Sneakers Women

I've just bought these to wear to work with summer dresses because they're leather and unbranded so as little as possible like trainers whilst still really being trainers! I wear orthotics and can get them in under the insoles. Women's Craft Cup Walk White Leather Trainers | Clarks

I say this on every post about trainers but I have Cerebral Palsy so have a strange shaped left foot which needs support and a surgery induced flat foot I wear Adidas Superstars which are perfect as they are deep enough but also " cup" my heal
I'm 58 and am wearing a white with purple 3 stripes on
I think they pass for a classic neat style as do Stan Smiths or Gazelles

Lavendersquare · 16/06/2023 16:27

I've been having knee trouble which my physio has attributed to my lack of arch support. He recommended I look for new shoes, I have discovered Vionic not cheap but fantastic arch support and absolutely loads of styles absolutely definitely not all old ladies. A lot of their styles are wide fitting so no good for me but plenty of standard fits as well. I've just got these trainers and I'd highly recommend them.

The Fitflop Rally linked above. Ecco do an almost identical one, both have arch support and are like gloves.

How we all laughed.

Trainers do go with skirts now. They have for years. Unless it’s a wedding you can pretty much always wear a clean well cared for trainer.

Youknowaboutthepaint · 16/06/2023 19:13

Surely trainers with dresses has been a thing for ages now. I've got Moda ones in a variety of colours

Those Clarks ones might do the job, if I had told younger me they might get excited at something on Clarks, well she would have been shocked!

I realise now by mentioning ballet pumps I threw a red herring, sorry. I went off topic on flat shoes, I am an off topic rambler ask my husband 🤣 By pumps I meant the low rise, as someone mentioned above, and for years lived in Supergas like these (don't know how to embed link on here sorry).

I have never heard of Vionic, thanks so much for the info. The Captivate in white might do the job. I couldn't open the link it was trying to take me to install the Next App.

They really are the best aren't they.
Deep enough to put an insole in.

Yes to still cupping the heel so they don't slop about.

I have about 8 pairs lol.

I do wish other types fitted like this but I've always had a soft spot for them since the early 90's.

50+ here!

Are these just online @LivelyBlake I looked for a stockist link but couldn't see one. Water repellent, elastic laces who knew how sexy these qualities could be, God I've changed.
