'Current' basic top

Is there a style of fairly basic top that is the 'current' silhouette? A few years ago it was mock neck tops - I basically lived in them with various sleeve lengths, with jeans of various styles, with a cardi / shirt / light jacket over the top. But they feel a bit dated now and the ones I own are a bit tired.

Trying to work out if there's a replacement silhouette top that feels 'current' and is work-appropriate (casual office but wouldnt want to wear a strappy top etc)

This approach seems very hard work! I’m not a clothes designer (with years of training and qualifications in anticipating and interpreting the zeitgeist in fabric and cut) and presumably you’re not either. So why not go into a satisfactorily cool / fashionable shop (concrete or online) and choose from what they stock?

Places I might look for reliable, hardwearing basic, simple tops good enough to wear in an informal work situation:

Margaret Howell
Goodhood Store
American Vintage
Raey @ Matches
YMC (plain sweatshirts)

Well done me, for killing a perfectly good thread. Hmm

Hope you’ve found what you’re looking for, @dinkydonky.
