Poetry - WHY do they not give pictures of the backs of their clothes?

SmiggyBalls · 12/06/2023 14:22

I find this baffling. Why would you take multiple, beautifully-set photos, but not show what the clothes look like from different angles?

If anyone happens to own this jumpsuit, can you please send me a photo of the back of it?!

It's not just Poetry, lots of companies do it and it's really annoying. I have even seen backless dresses and tops where only the front is shown. And as for swimwear, I spent ages looking for a deep low back swimsuit, because the backs are not always depicted.

RattyHealy · 12/06/2023 17:54

This really bugs me. I was looking at a dress from M&S and there's one photo.

I was also looking at a Johnny Loves Rosie bag and whilst there's lots of pictures there are never any on a model.

tobee · 12/06/2023 19:19

With M&S is it because it's from another brand? I think they use the same photos as brand.

So many photos are terrible; models leaning awkwardly etc.

My real bugbear is black or other dark clothing is almost impossible to see the detail eg whether an item has pockets etc. Frequently have to look at lighter colours to get an idea.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/06/2023 19:25

They do on some items, usually if there is a feature on the back, more so on dresses or tunics.

Yes, the awkward postures, etc.. So frustrating. I assume it's because sometimes the clothes just look shit when the models stand normally, which is not encouraging (I especially find they do this for clothes which the models are clearly too tall for)

Indeed. So they seem to see the point for some items and not others? I think the back is ALWAYS important, no?

Yes, I assume this is a cost thing? So annoying, but there's a possible reason? The only possible reason I can think of to omit the back when you've hired a model and taken loads of beautiful photos is that the back of the clothes looks shit?

Yes, I can imagine!

Lots of listing on auction sites do it too, so it might be an oversight.
If you are buying a pair of trousers or a jumpsuit you need the rear view too.
I like the jumpsuit.

Don't tell us, tell Poetry.

SmiggyBalls · 12/06/2023 23:16

Good point. I shall stop whinging on Mumsnet about it and request the back photo directly from Poetry. Thank you!

I must say that jump suit looks like something from the Great Revolution, I know you didn't ask but I might be saving you from yourself!

CatfoodOzymandias · 12/06/2023 23:49

I love the jumpsuit. Especially in pink.
Love Poetry clothes in general though can't justify buying them right now.

Haha, really?! 😂I kind of love it, but can also see what you mean here...

Same here. I like salivating over their website but I've actually never bought anything from them because they're too expensive - but I'm tempted by this one thing (a jumpsuit counts as two things so is a bit more justifiable, right?). Can't quite believe I'm considering it though....

In case anyone's still around on this (admittedly not scintillating in topic) thread... for those who do like the jumpsuit, do you think the pink version would still be good in winter? I'm oscillating between the "ink" and pink (can't work out if ink is navy blue or black) to try.

Also - I e-mailed Poetry, and they sent a photo of the back within a few hours!

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 13/06/2023 13:47

The ink one is blue-black.
It would work most of the year, but it depends on the thickness of the fabric.

SmiggyBalls · 13/06/2023 13:49

Thanks @KirstenBlest :)

CatfoodOzymandias · 13/06/2023 14:16

I think the pink will be fine later in the year too. Never understood why people only need to wear blue or black in autumn-winter. I am bored of both, a bit. Also pink is less Chairman Mao:)

KirstenBlest · 13/06/2023 14:25

I don't think it looks 'Chairman Mao'.
I'd go for the pink despite not being a pink person.

I have boilersuits and they look quite boilersuity. They are easy to wear as you don't have to worry about matching a top to the bottom half.
The only problem might be if the body is too short or too long.

You're right, of course, @CatfoodOzymandias . Thank you. I'm erring towards the pink, although it's meant to be for work, so am wavering...

Haha, good picture!
I haven't had one before, but was inspired by a blog by a very well dressed lady in her 50s about how to dress in middle age, and realised I liked the look.
I'm a quite long in the body, but had heard Poetry were good for this, so crossing my fingers it might fit.

Yes! Are you a fan @KirstenBlest ?

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 13/06/2023 19:00

@SmiggyBalls , I think the clothes she wears do look middle aged but they wouldn't look awful on someone younger or older.

@NatashaDancing , the heeled sandals let those jumpsuits down.
I'm not sure about the camilla jumpsuit. It looked fine when she was stationary, but in that photos it's not flattering.
I have the Anna Murphy 'How not to wear black' book but it's quite likely to go to the charity shop.
