Shorts help!

I need some help finding flattering shorts. In the heat I usually wear dresses as I find them most comfortable and flattering.

This summer we are going on a more active holiday, for some of which dresses won't be practical so I think I need to buy a few pairs of shorts. However, any I try on look reeeeeally unflattering. Lots of my friends wear denim shorts with vest tops/t shirts but I always feel really uncomfortable/unattractive in them.

I am a UK12 but carry most of my weight around my stomach, I suppose you'd say I was apple shaped, and I think this is the problem.

For doing sport I wear short ish cycling shorts and a loose ish vest too sometimes which I feel ok in but this doesn't feel like very pretty holiday wear.

It's a big holiday which we won't be repeating anytime soon so don't want to spend it feeling unattractive!

Any advice would be great!

I have a similar tummy issue coupled with wide hips. I find the best style are the mid-rise boyfriend style from M&S and Next. I usually size up. What works best for me are shorts that are slightly wider at the leg opening rather than tight around the thigh and the boyfriend ones are like that. By sizing up they don’t dig into my tummy fat and I wear them with a belt.

Boyfriend denim shorts Unfortunately these are now sold out but this is the shape to look for. @Ginerous advice is spot on! I also got a black pair from MountainWarehouse that are surprisingly flattering.

Brilliant, thanks for the advice! I'll try these ones. Good idea re: sizing up too
