Re-proofing a lightweight Barbour wax jacket

I have bought a used Barbour wax jacket and it's fairly lightweight compared to my thornproof Barbour. It's an utility jacket, and it says Sylkoil on it. It needs reproofing before I wear it.

Do I need a special sylkoil dressing or do I use the standard Barbour thornproof wax dressing, which I already have?

The jacket was a charity shop bargain and looks nice on me, so I want to not ruin it. I don't fancy paying to have it reproofed by the manufacturer.

I have looked on the Barbour site and can't find it in the caring for your jacket bit.

It's this one

I looked on Google, there are quite a few videos on YouTube about waxing a jacket. I didn't look further but you should be able to find something that tells you what to do.

I always look on Google if I need to know something like this.

Hi @MonumentalLentil . I have waxed jackets many times before but my regular Barbour is much heavier.

My question is 'Does the lightweight jacket need a special wax?'.

Does nothing come up on Google when you typed that question in?

Like this for instance:

I found it very quickly, along with several others...

You can send it back to Barbour to be refurbished.

Why not phone Barbour and ask about the difference in treatment- you can then make a decision as to whether or not to do it yourself

@Brianan , I could but the jacket cost less than the wax. Grin
I have several coats to wax, just that one seems much lighter than the others. It is a jacket rather than a coat though.

@MonumentalLentil , the link didn't work as it was, but did with cut & paste.
My browser search engine is dreadful - usually brings up ebay, amazon or shein regardless of my query. Confused

I contacted the Barbour chat thingy and it said to use a light application of the regular thornproof dressing.

Thanks!
