Sun hat for big head

For once in my life I'd like really nice sunhat. That will go with everything. But I've got a huge head and thick hair in a Bob.

Would ideally like one that rolls up when not wearing.

Please help me look stylish for the first time in 53 years. Happy to invest in something that will do the job and look better than my baseball cap!

H&M! They size their sunhats. The large fits my bigger than average head just fine.

I've had some luck with men's XL hats, but have never found anywhere in the UK with larger sizes hats for women.

Mens Panama hats work for me

I was thinking more of places online where you measure your head first, to be sure of getting the right size. I hate shopping but can see that maybe the men's shops could be useful. In my experience even places that do Large for ladies are too small (this has been a life-long problem).

sharing here for the others following this thread like @YappyCamper - there seem nice and functional and cheaper than Tilley.

I'd really like something a bit more dressy though. I might buy a functional one now and keep up the hunt for something more elegant.

I have the exact opposite issue as I have a pinhead and usually end up with twee children's hats. I'd love a well fitting sun hat.

Any suggestions for grown up hats for tiny heads gratefully received!

I bought a few from sungrubbies in Australia. You measure and order accordingly and they've a big range. I love mine.

My head is a mens xl-xxl, and I have a Tilley hat and a Solbari wide brimmed hat. Neither is exactly stylish but they fit and keep the sun off. Panamas don't suit me but are more attractive

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername yes yes yes yes! This is exactly it. A friend of mine has a great hat she bought in Australia - this kind of thing. Do they take a long time to ship?

M&S or H&M men's hats in large/xl

If you are after a straw hat style then I picked up a decent one in Primark of all places. I wanted a wide brimmed plain straw hat for sitting on the beach, that fit my big head/pouffy hair combo. The Primark one is great (has a ribbon inside to adjust if you need it) and even better was only £4!

Got one in Primark. Black, straw with wire to brim, packs nicely, 6 quid.

And I have a mahooosive head 😁

Sungrubbies look like just the ticket! I am also going to have a look in primark though. I don't hold much hope though as my head is too big for all the other high st shops that have been mentioned so far

@YappyCamper let's have a look and report back! I want to know if my big head is bigger than other people's big heads. Thick hair really doesn't help matters either.

Are you me?! I so nearly started a thread asking exactly the same question so thank you. I'll go through recommendations from this post as I've never found a high street hat to fit my huge head 😤

No - having tried every bloody hat in Accessorize, I can confirm that they are crap for larger heads. Most of them have ribbons/tapes inside to make them smaller, but they are small to start with.

I still haven’t found a hat in the UK that fits. My head is not ridiculously big. I found one abroad that fits well, I think it was 61cm (but could have been 60, not sure).

Another vote for Primark. My head is too big for most women's sunhats, but I found a white straw with black ribbon trim. £5

I'm not sure it's massively stylish, but I don't care as it's practical and comes in a size L/ XL. Previously I've always bought extra large men's hats. This one has a removable chin strap which is actually pretty handy when it's windy! And it folds/rolls up. And I like the colour. I'll try to attach bad selfies photos of me wearing it!

I am similarly big-headed and had this shopping test recently - i bought one nice solid straw one from Other Stories, then a folding panama for travel from Amazon (it's unisex so was big enough)
