Tipping on clothes orders?

ChocChipHandbag · 11/06/2023 10:51

What madness is this? I was just asked if I'd like to add a tip when ordering a dress.

It's put me off placing the order, to be honest, they seem to be saying either "we're in financial trouble" or "we don't pay our staff properly".

What fresh hell is this, ridiculous!!!!

Saint and Sofia have bad rep when it comes to returns

barbarahunter · 11/06/2023 11:30

I had this recently with some shoes I ordered. Bloody idiotic! I just ignored it.

In what way? I've had no issues previously.

Is it an American company? Never heard/seen this before for an online order!

mintbiscuit · 11/06/2023 11:37

Yeah, I bought from them recently. It was weird. I could have understood a charity donation , but tipping??!! Wtf?

i hope we don’t start incurring’service charges’ in shops!!

Showersugar · 11/06/2023 11:37

Aren't Saint & Sofia con artists? Be careful.

Oo, tell me more? I’ve only used them once.

sodthesodoff · 11/06/2023 11:40

Google them on here! There have been plenty of threads.

I had an issue years ago (before they changed name because they had to rebrand as they had such a bad reputation...)

Customer service response was to block me!

So yeah. I wouldn't recommend them.

Oh and the clothes were shit. Odd fitting and cheap materials.

NatashaDancing · 11/06/2023 13:07

Goodness it is indeed a thing on Saint and Sofia. I pretended I wanted to buy one of their (very ordinary) dresses and it popped up.

Saint and Sofia dresses

As an aside , with reference to the long Seasalt thread Seasalt dresses might lack oomph, but Saint and Sofia are no better and a lot more expensive.

Verry Kerry were asking for a tip when I ordered several years ago. If it was a donation for their Indian garment workers I'd have considered it.

ILoveaSunflower · 11/06/2023 13:27

No way do saint and Sofia deserve a tip. Took months to get my money back from a return.

DelphiniumBlue · 11/06/2023 14:25

Really pushing their luck, the clothes are not cheap, either!
I've had 3 high street stores try to get me to donate money recently when I shopped in person, I can only assume they are on commission? Primark, looking at you!

No, they're a reputable British company. I have a few things from them, and I think they are good quality. They do have some stuff that seems overpriced for what it is eg £70 for jersey trousers, and some of the styling is not my cup of tea but the things I do have I would co aider to be good buys.

They also offered me £20 credit if I exchanged something rather than took a refund, which I was happy with as I was able to exchange for something more expensive.

Well there's a reason they're on social media...

What brand isn't these days? Oh the ones who don't want the publicity of what the majority of their customers have to say.

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/06/2023 15:04

I'd give them a household tip like 'Hang your washing on a line on a sunny day' or something

sodthesodoff · 11/06/2023 15:08

They're NOT on social media I mean.

I mean it's odd they had to come off it!

I don’t get all the Saint + Sofia hate, I have half a dozen items from them and have always been really happy. The tipping is bizarre though, but not the only place I have seen it.

They're on Instagram. Last post was 4 hours ago.

Ah thanks. They came off it years ago.

Mainly I think 'cause they were blocking customers...

Good to know though. I like to warn customers of the shit service they're going to get

So what other shops have been asking you for tips? Literally the first I've heard of it. On what basis are they asking for extra money?

TulipCat · 11/06/2023 15:52

I don't do any of these "tips" or rounding up for charity etc etc when I pay for things. I can only afford to tip in restaurants and I have no qualms about refusing this everywhere else.

None, that's why asked about S+S doing it as it was the first time I had ever seen it.

More and more small businesses are doing this. I’ve noticed it at Black &Beech and somewhere else that I can’t think of right now.
