Could this dress be taken up by about 4-5 inches without loosing the pattern

Think the module is about 5'8. As they always are !!.
I am 5'.

Is the pattern asymetrical enough to not be noticeable.

I won't be doing it !

But don't want to buy it if it would be impossible to have shortened .

Thanks.

I think it would be fine. It would also be easy to do yourself!

bizzey · 08/06/2023 18:48

Ohh thank you for your optimism!!
No way would I be able to take it up my self ...I go crossed eyed at just threading a needle !

On the model it swinga around the ankles and she has 4" heels on .

Definitely could be taken up, and agree it would be pretty simple to do yourself if feeling brave!

Twillow · 08/06/2023 20:00

Absolutely fine to do.

Darklane · 08/06/2023 20:37

Really easy to shorten a dress like that with a plain straightforward hem
Why not try, there’s really nothing to it. You’d save money & have a skill to do it in future, being just 5’ myself I know how most things have to be shortened.
Do it by hand, makes an invisible hem, so neat & easy.

bizzey · 08/06/2023 20:50

Thanks everyone.
Sizing is a bit annoying...
6/8 ...then next one is 10/12 ...!!

I am a 8/10 .

Will have to get both and hope the returns/refund doesn't take too long .

It always fills me with despair when I look at the stats for the model - "model is 5'10 and wearing a size 8". 10 inches taller than me then!
That dress is lovely, hope it fits 😊

bizzey · 08/06/2023 21:23

I know 🤣!
The only review for the dress was negative saying it is too long !

But hopefully if the left overs get hemmed ....I could use them as a matching shawl/cover up over my shoulders!!

I could end up with a 2-4-1 !!

Ha! I wonder what the tailor near me does with the bits he trims off my clothes? Probably enough to make clothes for a small child, I should look out for toddlers with matching outfits 😂

bizzey · 08/06/2023 22:20

How much does your tailor charge if you don't mind me asking..

I had about £30 in my head ...is that about right ?

I've just had some trousers and dresses taken up and paid £8 per item. I looked at a couple of places snd they were all around the £8-10 mark.

CindersAgain · 08/06/2023 22:26

Ours is £10 for trousers so I’d think a dress would be the same. Seems like the same amount of effort.

bizzey · 08/06/2023 22:36

Ohh thank you .
Well I have taken the bull by the horns and ordered the dress I the 2 sizes....and shoes and a bag !

It will be a McDonald's after graduation 🎓 meal at this rate 🤣🤣!

Dress has arrived and I am very happy with it ...apart from all the massive amounts of material that needs to come off the bottom !!

Deffo a whole dress for a toddler 😂.

I will aim for a stole/shawl .

I’m going to tell you a secret.

when they make the dress, the pattern ends up cutting off slightly differently on different sizes anyway. They don’t reprint the fabric for every size.

hemming a dress is not difficult, though depending on the material it can be a bit fussy
