I need to stop wearing converse for the sake of my feet. I want something supportive but not totally ugly and middle aged appropriate.
I’ve been wearing some sketchers but they look like kids shoes. Any ideas ?

Nike are the most amazing trainers - star runner 3 goes up to adult sizes and is very similar in feel to skechers.

Having said all that...Nike have recently gone hugely down in esteem amongst some of us here on mumsnet re their advertising.

Oh yes I don’t think I’d like to buy from them at the moment. They’re quite cheap for me though (I’m only a 4).
id also like something that wasn’t too traditionally sporty looking.

Are the Converse flatforms no good, or just not to your taste OP? I'm in the same boat, was thinking of trying those next. Otherwise I wear Stan Smiths and Superga, not extremely supportive but better than normal Converse.

HatchetJob · 06/06/2023 17:40

I think I would fall over in converse flat forms! Converse is my taste rather than a trainer unfortunately, I’m wrecking my ankles though with them.

I do like the Superga though.

Go to a specialist running/hiking shoe shop that measures your feet and gait to find you the perfect pair for your sport and activity level.

I don't know if Puma are hugely stylish or 'cool' but I've just bought these today, they have them in a 4.

I got some new balance for New York and they are so comfy. I'm someone who suffered from very painful feet and they are very comfy

flexigirl · 06/06/2023 19:41

Hokas absolutely amazing. Got mine through my podiatrist

MuddaUdders · 06/06/2023 19:52

*Veja trainers

Ultravox · 06/06/2023 19:56

Whatever you do don’t buy Vejas. They are the most uncomfortable trainers I’ve ever worn!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/06/2023 20:00

I have lots of different makes of trainers.
my favourites for looks is Adidas superstar, but the most comfy and supportive are definitely my Elle Sport. They have a bouncy memory foam sole which is amazing, I can wear them for hours.
they are usually on offer in TKMAXX.

That's good to know! Thanks for the heads up

I bought these from M&S after buying New Balance 327s and discovering they’re the most uncomfortable thing on the planet.

The M&S ones are so comfortable and are very supportive. If they’re not in stock in your size keep an eye out because it changes 2 or 3 times a day at time. My acupuncturist bought some, after seeing mine, and also, finding New Balance really uncomfortable.

I have bought some orthopaedic insoles for my Converse, which improves them massively.
My most comfy trainers are ASICS, but they are not stylish by any stretch of the imagination.

HatchetJob · 06/06/2023 20:31

I’m not stylish at all. I’ve always struggled with the jeans/trainer look though, esp if they are white, hence the converse.

I actually have some vouchers and going to get 2 pairs and have a good look tomorrow.
