Festival chic…….help!

So I’m doing two big festivals this year after a festival drought of over 10 years. What on earth passes as festival chic these days? Last time I went it was denim mini skirts and wellies! I’m 41 and a size 10-12, definitely not planning on wearing any crop tops or hot pants! Just to add to the pressure I’m going with a group who always appear naturally stylish and on trend. Please help!

I don't think wellies are ever a bad idea. Jo Wiley, Zoe Ball and Kate M always seem to nail it. T shirt, big scarf, shorts/skinnies/leather leggings, sweatshirt, waterproof jacket.

Just take socks for your wellies 😬🩸

Also hard no to leather leggings above. The sweat!!

I wear pretty much what I’d wear on a Saturday at the beach if that helps, ie layering, but social is full of pictures so maybe have a look at those.

BlondeFool · 04/06/2023 20:13

I wear lots of sequins

RampantIvy · 04/06/2023 20:15

Anything that will survive festival toilets easily, so no maxi dresses, wide trousers or jump suits.

Vitriolinsanity · 04/06/2023 20:18

@continentallentil I was heading more toward leather look eg Mint Velvet. Not sweaty, but more dressy than leggings.

Timeforabiscuit · 04/06/2023 20:24

Went to Wychwood festival in Cheltenham last night and Louise from Sleeper looked fabulous.

Slogan boxy fit tshirt, floral long skirt with lots of ruffle layers and black biker style boots.

I feel like festival wear hasn't really changed so what you wore before just updated with versions that suit you now and you feel comfy in

Big scarf - genius!

my eyes are burned from witnessing Will Young remove his sweaty leather trousers at a concert last year after completely misjudging his outfit choice for the predicted weather. Those sweaty grey Y fronts still haunt my dreams.

Love this suggestion of biker style boots. Might have to splash out on some DMs. Memories of cherry red DMs coming flooding back!

I started this very thread a couple of weeks ago. I think it has Glastonbury in the title and I got some really good links and bpught afew bits. No to tight leather leggings, skinnies etc do you want to be stuck in a porto loo trying to pull them up? Ditto jumpsuits and maxi skirts. I bought this skirt and it looks fab on and is flattering. https://www.diskokids.co.uk/products/last-night-a-dj-saved-my-life-ladies-t-shirt-black-silver?variant=43502163951866&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7PCjBhDwARIsANo7CglMxT7Fx6Qam34MpRiinXI4_OVAJiJDkzoryMRTThFBtSZYfkRiQ-4aAiEzEALw_wcB im going to wear black plimsols with it.

So sorry @EachandEveryone i completely missed that! Will go and check it out!

Festival wear is clothing that suits the weather and conditions and makes you happy. I go to a lot of festivals and have done for decades. It's always easy to spot the people who buy into the fashion parade and adopt suggestions made by journos who have never been to a festival in their lives. A few years ago, it was floaty chiffony skirts and a white t-shirt. I know this because the t-shirts always ended up grubby and the skirts got trapped in the portaloo doors and trailed on the suspect floors as well. Layers are good, lightweight warm items for the evening and a careful check of the weather forecast before you go.

I love a festival and I just wear tee shirt and shorts. Pack a sequin shrug and plenty of glitter if you want more festival bling.
wellies or Birkenstocks, make sure you have a warm jumper for the evenings.
I also pack plain leggings which I wear as pjs but could wear during the day if it’s a bit cooler.

have a fab time

Great advice @ShowOfHands thank you!
