Black tie wedding

It's not until October but I've started the search for a suitable dress or all in one. I'm 62 (but only 26 in my head) with a young outlook. Size 16 but trying to be a 14 by then. Usual style is Next/Wallis/Phase Eight/Florence &Fred but I do spend on Wolf & Badger if I love something enough. The wedding is in a smart hotel venue and I hate being cold. I know how much you all love a challenge and I've seen fab ideas for others so please help me out

Look on sites like ever pretty, jj's house, silk Fred for ideas. I have a lace sleeved long evening gown from ever pretty which hit a local dressmaker to take up and she nipped in the waist as I had to go up a couple of sizes to accommodate my top half Grin. In all I spent £85 on basically a custom fit dress that no longer fits me due to too much beer wine and cheese

I've looked on Silk Fred & AX Paris with no success. Nothing really eveningy. Looked on Vinted and went down a Needle& Thread rabbit hole but not really my style. I'm a more a plain ish classic.

Budget? Preferred colours?

Some are abit skimpy for a wedding but there's some lovely floor length ones

daretodenim · 03/06/2023 20:45

It's too early now isn't it? I'd wait until the autumn. Most things now are for the summer.

ginislife · 04/06/2023 05:02

@FairGoMatron sorry, should have said. Budget is flexible but I don't really want to pay £000s. In my head £200 is pushing it really. If I can find something for a lot less I'll be happy. Colour - strong, not pastel. Navy, purple, red, multi, emerald green ( but isn't it unlucky at a wedding so maybe not ?) Not black or white

I had no idea emerald green was unlucky at weddings. I've worn it to 3. Oops.

EvenmoreDisorganised · 04/06/2023 06:33

Yes, avoid green it's supposed to bring bad luck.

Evening dresses from John Lewis keep popping up in my feed at the moment, they have a big selection and you can filter by evening, long sleeves etc. I like this

@EvenmoreDisorganised John Lewis is a great shout. Never thought of them / and I've just found a deep pink dress reduced from £169 to £50 that looks very lovely !!
I found a nice Nancy Mac all in one but it's £250 ! And I've already got 4 all in ones.
