Really boring question about pedicures

I've never had a pedicure (or a manicure) before but I've booked a gel pedicure at a local salon for Monday as the weather is getting nicer and my feet will be on show.

I have nail polish on my toes at the moment (just done at home).....do I have to remove it beforehand or do they do that anyway? Is there anything else I need to do or know?

They'll remove it for you, nothing else you need to know. Just enjoy it!

Oooo I love a pedicure! They will remove it for you. Just sit back and enjoy 😊

Bare in mind gel either has to be removed professionally or touched up as it grows out, so if you don't want to keep going back just get normal polish that you can remove yourself. If getting normal polish wear flip flops and don't go anywhere for a few hours (like home where kids/dogs are likely to ambush you and smudge it.. from personal experience 😆)

Wear something you can roll up as they put your feet in a spa, wear flip flops so you don’t damage the new polish. Take a book.
Its heavenly. Something I genuinely miss now my psoriasis is so bad they won’t do me one. 😢

No, definitely go for gel polish. It lasts so long on toes, it's really worth it.

Yes, you've to go back to get it removed but not for weeks

Steppingintome · 02/06/2023 18:02

Yes they will remove it. Defo wear pants you can pull or roll up. They often do a mini leg massage which is great :). Gel polish is ok you can have it removed by them if you want it off or you can buy remover in a bottle which you paint on like nail polish and it peels off. Flip flops if you get normal polish done.

enjoy 😊

Oh I could go for a pedicure every week! I had one last weekend and it was so relaxing, the salon I go to has massage chairs and then the lady gave me a foot rub, I could have happily dozed off!

BrunchMonster · 02/06/2023 18:04

I've booked in for one next week too. I had one years ago but not in this country. It was gel polish and lasted ages, so I'd recommend that too.

I need things like corns removed, and toe-nails cut (they're a bit ingrown) - I hope they'll do that as well as just the gel polish.

I also have hairy toes so I need to remember to shave those before I go!

NigellaAwesome · 02/06/2023 18:12

@BrunchMonster I would recommend seeing a podiatrist first to sort out the corns and ingrown toenails

BrunchMonster · 02/06/2023 19:18

thanks, maybe I will have to. Not time to see one before, but I won't necessarily expect to get it done at the pedicure then. It's just one corn in particular on my little toe that is irritatingly sore, and then just the edges of my big toenails that dig in a bit. Not really enough to see a podiatrist for the extra expense, but I might just have to do it.

I remove gel nails at home
All you need is pure acetone, cotton wool pads and tinfoil

ThreeRingCircus · 03/06/2023 08:42

Oh thank you everyone! I'm really looking forward to it now. I never seem to do anything for myself so this is a real treat.
