Help me find a wedding guest outfit?!

I seem to have lost my sense of style lately. I have a July wedding coming up and would love to look good, not just hide in something black which is what I've been doing lately!

I'm 45, petite build, 5 ft 2ish, I had a baby about a year ago and I'm still a bit squishy, with a bit of a tummy. Size 8-12, depending on brand and style. The lady at John Lewis tells me I'm now a 30F, which surprised me!

I hate big puffy sleeves, and I'm not convinced the midi length is flattering on me, but most dresses seem to be this length at the moment.
I can't wear things which have loads of fabric as I just look swamped, although some maxi dresses are quite flattering if not too voluminous! Im blonde/ blue eyes & suit v necklines, and neutrals/ greens & blues rather than yellows, reds & pinks.

My style before lockdown & the baby was quite bodycon for work I guess, little dresses and heels, glam for going out & a bit boho for downtime.
These days I've been mostly in leggings and jeans and looking round the shops I don't see much I really like. I don't want to look too matronly, but also not too try hard, help?!

How about a fancy t-shirt dress? This one at Jigsaw x Collagerie might be interesting:

cos it’s a vibrant print, it gets away with being a more casual shape.

You could do heels for the wedding and then wear it with trainers for other summer events, then add black opaques and stompy boots for autumn.

Thanks for your suggestion! I do like the print and yes it would work work for autumn too. Not sure about the high neckline for the wedding though?

What sort of budget do you have OP?

andsowhattowearr · 01/06/2023 09:07

About £200

Also, do people still coordinate with their partners/husbands? Or is that a bit naff

New look and river island have some lovely dresses in, smock dresses would be flattering, i’m 5ft and have been buying those both in midi and mini and have them altered to ensure the fit is right with me being petite.

Are you comfortable showing your arms and/or legs?

andsowhattowearr · 04/06/2023 19:45

Thanks for the replies, yes I can show some skin, but I do need to wear a bra so would prefer no spaghetti straps/ backless tops or dresses

Boden has nice dresses this season. You could find a dress you like and get it hemmed if the length isn't quite right.

How about this, this, this or this.

Try going to The Outnet and selecting dresses and setting the price to 50-250 and you get loads of options. I'm a little taller than you (5'4") and a size 8 and I completely agree about being swamped by so much of what's out there at the moment, also agree about big puffy sleeves. I've included just a few links below - they also did have quite a few midis and maxis that are less voluminous than a lot I've seen. Definitely worth a scroll.
