Sport swimming bikini

Hi all I am looking for a sport swimming bikini but all the ones I have tried have really small low cut bottom halves. I like the sport back on the bikini tops I have tried and the fact they seem to be supportive. I want one to wear for open water swimming and under a rash vest and shorts when I am paddle boarding. Has anyone come across a set which has larger bottom halves? I am a size 14/16

Have you looked at the Alpkit separates? I have an assortment of theirs so I can mix and match - the bikini under my wetsuit, the long sleeved swimming costume with long shorts for swimming and sun protection but all of it goes together

This is what I’m always after but never quite find. Olaian stuff always looks good on paper (I find it from Decathathalon) but the sizing is a bit random

lovetosup · 30/05/2023 21:47

@CMOTDibbler I have a look at those thanks
@Infusionist I hadn't thought of decathlon I will also check it out thanks

I've got a couple of Deakin and Blue bikinis which I wear for open water swimming and paddleboarding. They're expensive but are lasting brilliantly and they look good as well. They have a clearance section on the website too.

aramox1 · 30/05/2023 21:53

Finisterre have some great ones atm.

AlligatorPsychopath · 30/05/2023 22:02

Sweaty Betty have some sporty-styled bikinis with substantial bottoms. Not cheap, as ever, but their stuff does generally last.

AlligatorPsychopath · 30/05/2023 22:05

E.g. this

Funkita do a few different styles and seem to be the go-to for most open water swimmers. Jolyn are difficult to get in the UK but have really good sports bikinis if you can find them. Otherwise maybe try some men's jammers. I wear men's lycra running shorts and it works fine so I think jammers would probably work too (once I've managed to ease them over my hips!)

Have a look on simply be

I like the Decathlon ones too. I didn't experience an issue with sizing, but that might be because I'm used to being between sizes in swimwear so always go into store and take both sizes into the changing rooms.

lovetosup · 30/05/2023 22:26

Thanks everyone I will take a look 🙂

Get the summer-weight running shorts from decathlon - they make excellent swimming jammers and the sizing is reliable (agree that the swimwear can be weird)

Sweaty Betty is high price for unexceptional performance

Funkita is good, but the bikini bottoms might be on the small size for what OP's after

I like the look of the Alpkit stuff - what's their sizing like?

lljkk · 30/05/2023 22:38

Some women's performance trisuits are ridiculously skimpy bikini style.

These 3rd Rock ones might fit the bill? Swimwear | Organic and Sustainable | 3RD ROCK Clothing They are specifically designed to be used for both swimming and things like climbing and paddleboarding. I have a couple. They are not cheap but great quality and I am getting a lot of wear from them as I can wear them under my clothes for eg hiking and then swim without needing to change.

Roxy do activity swimwear, as do other “surfing” brands.

evtheria · 31/05/2023 09:14

H&M have just released a sports line of swimwear. Limited range at the moment, but they include 'shortie' swimming shorts.

lovetosup · 31/05/2023 11:07

Thank you lots of places I haven't tried before 🙂. It's odd they just assume for the main brands like Speedo etc that you want tiny bottoms and no other options

I actually have an amazing bikini from bravissimo that's so much more supportive than a normal swimming costume. I wear it OWS.

Candleabra · 31/05/2023 12:00

I’ve been looking for this type of bikini for years. All it needs to be is a nice sports bra in swimsuit fabric.
Sweaty Betty stuff looks good in theory but I found the cut very odd - and skimpy in the wrong places. I think it’s the fashion to have half your bum uncovered in bikini bottoms (the “triangle” of fabric on the back is too small despite it fitting everywhere else). I’m sure it looks great on a super toned 20 year old, but not so much on me.
I found Roxy too teenagery, I fact I gave the swimsuit I ordered to my teenager. It did fit, but I couldn’t have safely done any sport in it.

Minnie147 · 31/05/2023 12:17

H&M have a brilliant running style bikini this year, in black or bright pink. Style is 'sports bikini top/bottoms' , currently on sale too

lovetosup · 31/05/2023 16:24

@Candleabra perhaps we should go into business and create what is needed ha!

I’ve thought this for years! I’m sure there’s a market for it
