Has anyone used them. Is the stuff true to size and are they reliable actually sending it?

OP posts:
GettingStuffed · 28/05/2023 15:35

I've been buying stuff from Temu rather than Shein. Their jewellery is really good at a around £1 for a sterling silver ring, (assay 750).
I've found the clothes to be good quality too but sizing is a bit off.

Primark is no longer as cheap as it used to be, but the quality seems to have improved

OriginalUsername2 · 28/05/2023 15:42

I ordered my DD some hoodies and they feel amazing and wash very well, I was thinking “what is this lovely material?!” when I was handing the washing and checked the labels.

100% polyester 😆

Gpnever · 28/05/2023 15:49

Fabric is cheap. But some of the designs are so nice.
they do excellent larger stuff that flatters. Returns are fuss free.

if I buy anything and really love it, I normally buy it twice because I know it won’t last long after being washed a few times x

Annaboo3 · 28/05/2023 18:32

Bit weird to mock people for being against something that is known for treating humans and our planet so terribly. But ok.

Anyway, yeah, avoid. Awful company and by the sounds of it, the quality of clothing isn’t much better.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 28/05/2023 19:07

Yeah, lots of polyester - got a few tops but they're awful in hot weather, feel like a pig in plastic. Won't buy from them now I've found out how they treat their staff either.

Bargellobitch · 28/05/2023 19:10

I've ordered with them loads. Read the reviews and look at custompics plus measurements for sizes and you'll be fine. I've had deliveries take 1 to 2weeks. Nothing like delivery time on wish or Ali express.

isthismylifenow · 28/05/2023 19:20

I have placed a fair few orders with them, and tbh the only time I have been really disappointed is when I haven't read up on the item properly. Not just for sizing, but item description etc. There is a lot of polyester yes, but there is also a decent amount of cotton and linen items too.

I mainly buy summer items though, but my dd swears by their jeans. They are without a doubt the ones she wears the most, and fit her well.

We also get things like phone covers and screen guards, I also have those balls you put in the tumble drier. The household items are so well priced. I just bought some macrame plant holders too.

Their hair claw clips are the best. I break those things all the time, these ones have lasted longer than many others bought that were way more expensive .

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 28/05/2023 19:27

I've ordered loafs for me and DD. As previously stated it's great for holiday clothes
You can get a whole holiday wardrobe quite reasonably.

What a very crass comment.

Reliable, good returns and cheap. Most of it is just fine, sometimes the quality isn't great. However more and more I see concerns online about very poor treatment of their workers and there are a lot of people boycotting them now.

GarlicGrace · 29/05/2023 04:07

I've bought loads from Shein in the last two months. I've been on my first (and last) Polyester Binge, the idea being to update myself quickly & cheaply. My boring, well-worn natural fibre basics will still be here after the new stuff's fallen apart or gone out of date.

Pleasantly surprised, tbh! Quality's hit and miss but often unexpectedly good. Returns are really easy. Shein gives the measurements of each garment, and you can conveniently see them by hovering over the size boxes. A lot of stuff comes up bigger than they said - you can filter the reviews by size, and see what previous buyers have said about the fit. Proportions can be weird but, again, review photos can be really helpful in that regard.

Really well set up, I think. Most online fashion retailers could learn a thing or two from them.

I do have ethical concerns but, FFS, all mass-market fashion is ethically concerning.

anon1968 · 29/05/2023 07:16

I’ve had quite a lot from shein, more shoes/sandals tbh than clothes, all have been true to size and decent quality for the price, i’ve returned some boots returns/refund process was excellent, drop off at a parcel collection point, advised every step of process by email, refunded within the week.

Quality is absolutely shocking.

When I see people saying how the good the quality is I cringe.

Oh and the working condition for the "workers" is disgusting.

massivesalads · 29/05/2023 08:14

Also to the people joking about the fast fashion police. Why is your need for cheap tatty clothes that you'll wear once more important than the lives of the workers?
If you're on a budget shop second hand.

I agree, iti s disheartening. These kinds of posts always remind me of a post I saw sometime ago where a poster admitted to purchasing something that "may have fallen off the back of a lorry". Everyone piled up on that OP about the ethics in that case. There is some level of hypocrisy in prioritizing concerns about the origins of goods obtained illegally while overlooking or disregarding the human rights violations associated with other consumption habits.

otherwayup · 29/05/2023 08:43

MinxieMax · 28/05/2023 12:10

Uh Oh.... the fast fashion police will be along in a minute to lecture you all on your disgraceful support for this company.

I buy a bit from them now and then, and once I find something that works I buy a few of the same items in different colours. Their summer dresses are great but can often run big. I buy mostly accessories and they are great. Things like hair stuff, storage bags, travel bottles and backpacks - the backpacks I've bought have been great, just what I wanted for travelling so don't worry about them being knocked about. Very sturdy and some lovely designs. I know a lot of the stuff is knock off of other designs but the site is legal and I've had no issues with deliveries etc.

Review with pics usually give a good idea of how things will look.

Nice attitude there.

Or would you be happy for a child in your family to make shit clothes in appalling conditions for a few pennies a day?
Thought not.

thebear1 · 29/05/2023 09:22

Heard so much negative about quality and ethics I avoid. Prefer vinted for cheap clothes. I'd check out vinted and if you can't get what you want then try shein.

Thread diversion for the fashionista of conscience:

"COS is a British fashion retailer. It is owned by H&M Group, and is the sister brand to & Other Stories, Afound, ARKET, Cheap Monday, H&M, Monki, and Weekday. It was founded in 2007 by H&M Group.

"COS’ supply chains are shared with the rest of H&M Group. Almost none of their supply chain is certified by labour standards which ensure worker health and safety, living wages or other labour rights."

Shein's even worse, of course. It's a Chinese company that publishes very little welfare information.

The whole issue is very complex, particularly as very nearly all fashion relies on low-paid labour in developing countries. Just wanted to mention that MN's "better" brands are, in fact, the same.

My favourite budget find is Everything 5 Pounds. They buy up unsold stock & flog it cheap. This helps to keep the stuff out of vast dumps in deserts and oceans, and means your purchase has not actively contributed to exploitation by increasing demand.

Ordered from them once and I agree with others, the clothes feel very cheap material.

Also Shein apparently put their returns straight into landfill as it's cheaper to dispose of the clothes than process a return. So really try your hardest not to buy excess/unsuitable clothes that would need to be sent back.

I agree with you, but I'm still dubious about Everything 5 Pounds too.

Whilst it seems better, I don't think it's a helpful solution, but just part of the problem. But I'm open to persuasion!

SHEIN has become my new Primark..!!
It's freakin' amazing...
So cheap and prompt delivery...
Not had to return anything as it's all true to size and shown on models with their sizing details..
i definitely recommend

This isn't the case here in my country.

The returns are sold in bulk to resellers who then (obvs) sell them on. We have quite a lot of outlet type shops that sell Shein items.

fantasmasgoria1 · 29/05/2023 18:21

They have the actual measurements of each item of clothing in different sizes. Some are a bit big, some are a bit small and some are just right. Just check the measurements and the reviews. Not everything is appalling quality either. They do really good hair accessories, stuff you don't find in any UK shops. The only way you will know is if you actually try it!
