Shorts for exercise

Hi all!

Any ideas on affordable exercise shorts with pockets for phones? Affordable is no more than £20. I prefer more length (like Bermuda style). I can't wear mens as I am so hippy with a smaller waist they don't sit well. Will take any suggestions though.

I am a size 14/16 bottom. I like big t shirts on top and don't want to wear trousers as it gets warmer.

Thanks

I feel your pain!! I am hippy too so shorts ride up to my waist.

I like the ronhill women's 7 inch unlined shorts which are a good length and have a deep waist so they don't ride up. They can be £35 but sometimes websites have older styles in limited sizes for less.

I have a pair of running shorts from runamics that I very much like!

I'm a size 12 and a medium - not sure all phones would fit in pocket.

It's a German brand, not sure about shipping taxes etc to UK.

Also not sure they fit in affordable category, but I've had mine for years and they look as good as new

APurpleSquirrel · 25/05/2023 18:36

I assume you don't mean the cycling short type ones? I've had some good ones from M&S but they cropped legging/cycling shorts, but they do have a pocket. Paid £10 in M&S outlet a few weeks ago, similar to this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/go-move-printed-cropped-gym-leggings/p/clp60549279?intid=mobileappppdpshare

Are you sure about men's shorts being out, what about with drawstring to tighten?

Xtraincome · 25/05/2023 21:06

Hi guys.

Just catching up now after putting DDs to bed.

Some great suggestions here. I love men's style shorts but my bum is Kardashian levels so would need a try on sesh with mens clothes. Would need to go bigggg in mens to compensate for the hips 😆

Will look at the more expensive brand too though if it can last a load of washes. I will just get 2 instead 3/4

Cycling shorts are a possibility but are less forgiving as they sculpt all the bumps 😆

Cheers again. Will report back soon. Gonna have a mooch online now

I find men’s football shorts much comfy I live in them especially when at gym etc
i think the football shorts are more generous room wise?
I get mine cheap from sports direct

Reluctantadult · 25/05/2023 21:26

I'm struggling to find longer length shorts for running too.

Xtraincome · 25/05/2023 21:51

@PinkBuffalo can I ask (if you're comfortable answering) your size and shape. I like the look if some of the loose mens shorts. I know some material wouldn't be forgiving.

Love the ronhill shorts too @everycowandagain 😍

Of course 🙂I am kind of a small man’s size (I am slim but quite muscly now) so get small football shorts 🩳 but they are quite roomy (i cannot wear anything remotely restricting) and have the drawstring to pull them in so I wondered if you went to somewhere like sports direct you can maybe try a few and hopefully find something🤞they do them in all sorts of sizes

Attictroll · 25/05/2023 22:15

I find these really good and considering buying a second colour www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1039132009.html

Xtraincome · 26/05/2023 08:27

Oh I like the H&M ones too. Anything high above the knee carries a cheek exposure risk but they're double layered too which may help 😆

Got way more choice than when I started guys thanks.

@Reluctantadult have you got some good inspiration from this thread too?

I have tried so many pairs of shorts and have given up and changed to Skorts. These are more expensive but they do good sales (will probably have a discount code over the bank holiday weekend) and there's a second hand selling group on facebook. They're so comfy! as predicted they’ve an offer on this weekend! “MAY15” discount code valid for 15% off until midnight Monday.

I got a nice skort in M&S last year, not sure if they have a range this year?
I like a high waisted, loose short for running and I don’t like the double layer ones as the inner layer just seems to ride up as soon as I start running.
I went for gymshark and the fit is nice but I have to size up to get enough width round the thigh as I have big legs.
if you generally need a phone pocket and it’s limiting your choice, I highly recommend a free train vest, you can carry all your stuff in that and wear it at the gym or running. It hugely opens up the options for shorts/leggings if you don’t need pockets and prevents you getting injured on your phone side as carrying things in your pockets can affect your stride/gait.
