Alternative to Longchamp Pliage

When I'm heading into London for work (train journey, overnight stays), I have a Nordace backpack for laptop, work bits, and can fit in a very small amount of clothes/toiletries. However sometimes I can't be quite as strict with my packing so I need an 'overspill' hold-all/tote to use also.

I think something like the Longchamp Pliage seems ideal, but it's so expensive!! I think I'd need the medium size, which is £100+.

Any recommendations for anything similar, but a lot cheaper? It doesn't have to be cutting edge stylish (I'm so not!), but just happy for it to look 'nice'.

I'd also rather it didn't look like a bloke's sports hold-all Hmm

Roka seem to be all back packs unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

I'll already have a back pack on with tech stuff.

@JosieOhNo If you type 'Longchamp Pliage' into Amazon, you'll get many lookielikies of a very similar design and far cheaper than an original.

Yeah, thanks @CanYouSeeMeNow I guess I'd just like to hear any recs though... it's can be a bit hit & miss otherwise

Have a look at the Day Birger Mikkelsen Gweneth bag, it comes in a few sizes and I use their larger size as my overnight bag. It’s super strong but really lightweight. The price varies a lot so it is worth shopping around.

I got all my pliages from brandalley, think the medium was around £60

JosieOhNo · 25/05/2023 17:27

Thanks, will take a look at brand alley and day birger...

Brand Alley regularly have Longchamp sales
If you type into the search you see the leftover ones/returns

Quite a few secondhand on Depop when I last looked too, many in very good condition indeed.

I love mine.
found it by chance in tkmaxx for £20 and it’s now my favourite travel/beach bag. I just wish I’d picked up the other patterns when I was there.

It’s squishy too, so meets the requirements for all budget airlines as I just squeeze it a bit
I’ve managed a week away on Wizz €9 flights refusing to pay for the bigger carry on bag. Straps are comfortable, and if I’ve put something too heavy in it for one shoulder (duty free bottles 🍸), can wear as a rucksack at a push.

I was given a navy and tan Le Pliage years ago by a friend who loves them. They’re just not my style so I hardly use it. Have seen on Brandalley.

BangingOn · 25/05/2023 17:48

@HotelNotPortofino that is a bargain! I paid about £40 for mine 7+ years ago and that was a great price on a cost per use basis. Great for long haul flights and as carry on.

Niftythrifter · 25/05/2023 19:37

I would say wait till the sales as you can sometimes get them reduced sometimes.

Sorryyoufeelthatwayy · 25/05/2023 19:38

watch out for fakes on ebay and vinted though!

evtheria · 25/05/2023 19:46

Mango do a good zipped tote, as do Osprey and Rains.

Niftythrifter · 25/05/2023 19:50

Just be careful if you go down the second hand route as there are fakes around and unless you know what to look for in terms of a real one then you could be taken in by a fake.
