I have never owned a pair as the idea bothers me somewhat, but are they comfortable? I've seen some lovely examples recently and would like to take the plunge but can't help wondering if they will irritate the space between my toes or interfere with walking comfort.

Any advice?

Well, you do have to get used to them. I bought some years ago - super comfy, I thought, then proceeded to wear them all day walking around Assisi. About 2/3rds in they started rubbing that but & quickly turned to blisters. It's very hard putting plasters on between sweaty toes Envy
Since then, I've sworn them gradually, over time to get my feet & toes used to it. I still wouldn't wear them for long periods or if walking lots but can wear them at the beach etc.
just be prepared for an adjustment period.

I can’t wear them myself, I think it’s the shape of my feet,

SeasonsBleatings · 21/05/2023 16:59

I have Birkenstock Gizeh and they are incredibly comfy, I can happily wear them all day

NashvilleQueen · 21/05/2023 16:59

I live in flip flops as soon as the weather permits. I find them incredibly comfortable but I do think you need to find the right brand for you. I like Ipanema best.

FictionalCharacter · 21/05/2023 17:00

I can't wear them at all, they rub so badly. It just depends on your foot shape.

saveforthat · 21/05/2023 17:02

Some flipflops have a soft toe post like a tape, they are the most comfortable imo.

OldTinHat · 21/05/2023 17:03

Fit Flops are your friend here, you won't look back! Lots of different styles but I love their traditional 'flip flop' design in the summer, so comfortable!

Niftythrifter · 21/05/2023 18:01

I don’t like toe post sandals but their is this product https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silicone-Sandal-Guards-Cushions-Protectors/dp/B01IEZT35K

Attictroll · 21/05/2023 18:06

Can't bear them so painful won't ever buy again

Niftythrifter · 21/05/2023 18:33

There

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/05/2023 18:35

Another Gizeh lover here - currently have I think 8 pairs on the go! I agree with advice about breaking your feet in to them gently if you're not used to them, but once you are then they'll be fine.

CosmosQueen · 21/05/2023 18:52

🫣 hideously painful the couple of times I’ve tried wearing them. Instant blisters so presumably my feet are the wrong shape 😢

DelurkingAJ · 21/05/2023 18:54

I wear them all summer as casual wear. I like flip flops with a band behind the heel so they stay put and I can eg drive without a problem.

Duhduhdub · 21/05/2023 18:59

Comfortable as long as you buy decent quality leather sandals in my experience. And break them in at home before jetting off anywhere hot. For flip flops I have never had a problem with Havaianas.

Ah mixed reviews, i hate foot issues and avoid like the plague, have lived in Birks Arizona's and trainers for years. Thanks for your thoughts. I am not sure i will go for it.
