DN, 12 but size 18. Where to buy clothes?

My niece, aged 12, has a brain tumour. As well as leaving her blind and slightly delayed (emotional age of around 8), it has also caused huge weight gain.

Please can you give some suggestions of where to get some summer dressed, t-shirts, shorts etc, in age-appropriate styles (bearing in mind she would quite like jersey dresses etc and is young for her), but size 18/20. She is autistic so prefers relatively plain styles, natural fibres, few seams/ornaments etc.

Thanks so much!

So sorry that your niece is dealing with this.
How tall is she OP ? She will need adult ranges but probably petite. My aunt is a size 16/18 and about four foot ten tall, I have bought simple, classic things for her from Lands End as they have a petite range, and lots of natural fibres. Their sizing is reasonably generous and there are bright colours as well as neutrals.

H&M T-shirt dresses which might work.

Simply be might be worth a look too.

Thanks for the comments.

She loves Boden-style kids appliqué, stripes etc, but wouldn't be interested in the more teen-style off-the-shoulder or anything like that.

She's around 150cm tall (5ft) so probably petite, yes. Not gone through puberty so no boobs or hips, just bum and belly.

I've been quite impressed with Rapanui lately. Not cheap but the trios of t-shirts are well priced. I also like the Seasalt Chapelle dress - soft cotton, few seams and itchy bits.

Phineyj · 19/05/2023 09:53

I am taller than her but similarly shaped it sounds.

Skater dresses, dungarees, leggings, long t-shirts, hoodie, joggers etc. All comfortable and fashionable.

Stylemyhairplease · 19/05/2023 09:54

This style (not pattern) is what she'd choose to wear: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1156042001.html

Lucy and yak do lovely stuff, all organic cotton, soft and comfy. But with brighter patterns which would suit her age. They have an extensive size range and some stuff is unisex so wouldn't be too "womanly" for her age.

Nap1983 · 19/05/2023 09:58

I reckon you’d get that sort of style (casual and comfy materials) in Next, H&M and maybe Primark for summer dresses. Good luck getting some x

Pinkywoo · 19/05/2023 10:01

This one? They have other styles that she might like too but this is the most like the example you posted.

These kids brands all do adult ranges good for t-shirts and dresses. Pricey to buy new but you can get good value 2nd-hand on eBay or vinted

I came on to recommend snag tights/shorts (to wear alone or under dresses) and saw on the website they do clothes as well (dresses, skits, dungarees etc) as well in a wide range of sizes with some really bright and fun stuff.

My DD wears mainly leggings (supermarket ones, the sporty ones) and baggy jumpers. Again, some supermarket clothes are great, also Shein. Primark too. Her autism means that she doesn’t like certain clothes and she is a slightly larger girl.

How about thngs from Amazon Fashion?
Cheap and cheerful, so doesn't matter so much if you get it wrong. These dresses are similar to your example and under a tenner. If not that dress (which might be too long, just type "jersey dress" into the Amazon Fashion search box and loads come up!

Evans do loads of cute t-shirt style dresses- this is a plainer one but they have lots of prints available.

You could go a size up so it's looser and extra-comfy

I've got some gorgeous, soft summer dresses from Asda and Primark. I'm waiting for an autism assessment so I know the sensory problems well Smile
